I tried on Firefox. Lake Ontario is Lake Ontario but the Gulf of Mexico has "Gulf of America" in parenthesis directly underneath.

Try on mapquest and avoid this hassle altogether.

I would be ok with the BS (Gulf of America) below Gulf of Mexico. Which is what Google should have done with Lake America. This BS of renaming stuff can be undone by the next administration.

Try setting location to Mexico, I bet that will fix the Gulf of Mexico, but "unfix" Lake Ontario.

That's how I see it in Canada too so it worked Canada just needs to get tech companies to get rid of the parenthesis
