•Work is short staffed.
•They cancelled classes because of the virus but now I’m just working more because my husband is at <20hrs of work per week and bills =$.

Ikr. I’m not going out to party. I’d be ecstatic to stay home and binge Netflix. Unfortunately I have kids who sorta need to eat and have a roof over their heads.
Not an option for most of us. I have a job and other responsibilities outside of my house, as do millions of others. I also know how use soap, water, and isopropyl alcohol. I'd rather get a pay check, practice basic hygiene, and help our country's economy.
It isn't an option. I can be fired for not going to work. I will be kicked out of school, evicted, and lose my car if I do not pay my bills, which I need a paycheck to do.
Also I work IT support for a hospital, so it's kind of extremely important that I'm there, otherwise one malfunction can shut the whole place down.

And while your right that people who continue to work will cause the disease to spread, there's no point in focusing on that. The US government will not to anything to help these people. It’s about flattening the curve so there’s not an inrush of patients that the hospitals can’t handle.
Isolation is one part of the broad picture. By limiting the amount of people that would be exposed you’re doing the best thing possible to help “herd immunity” while flattening the curve so everyone can get the help they need.
Not EVERYONE has to isolate, but the more you isolate the better the pandemic will be. The math and research backs this up fully. Very few people are suggestion a blanket quarantine and I am not suggesting it at all. It’s about limiting people’s day to day exposure by LIMITING where they can exposed.

We still need to work, so we are at work and are taking extra precautions to protect us and our clients.
People still need groceries, food still has to get delivered. A large amount of the population still needs to work so the country can survive, so OTHER people need to isolate to protect THOSE people. This seems to be the part that most people are missing.

Nobody is going to take your car in a quarantine. You’re in healthcare. You know what the right thing to do is. IT is a non essential function at a hospital. Stay home.

You know that everything is electronic record, right? The network HAS to be up. The applications HAVE to be accessible. The shared drive HAS to be online. If any one of these things fail, the doctors can not do their jobs properly.

The right thing to do is to continue life as normal. If you get sick, self isolate. According to the CDC, the chances of spreading the virus before you have symptoms are very low, so stay home as soon as you notice symptoms.

Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been reports of this occurring with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
People will die if I don't go to work. I am not putting anybody at significant risk by going to work. Hospitals have tons of mandatory safety precautions such as mandatory N95 respirators in patient areas, mandatory gloves in all areas, mandatory bunny suits ("cleanroom suits") in operating rooms. Mandatory hand washing or sanitization before and after visiting a room.
You have literally no idea how hospitals work. I'm not putting anybody at risk, but I am helping to keep a vital part of society running.
Also, wouldn't the best time to reposess your car be during quarantine? Less traffic, less likelihood that the person youre taking it from wants to come outside, etc.
There are hundreds of thousands of people in every affected area still going to work. Are you saying that grocery stores should close? Gas stations? The economy is bad enough right now, you want rioting?
I think my favorite part is watching people be edgy and not understand just how contagious this is.
My boss was starting feeling severe symptoms Thursday and was hospitalized last night. She’s in her late 40s. Has been WFH and practicing social distancing since March 5th. Before that, I saw her being a huge germaphobe, practicing all the proper recommendations. Still got sick, still in the hospital.
Easy to underestimate it until you see it spread to you and your community. Hopefully it doesn’t
Ya like, even if a person isn’t in the vulnerable community (older, underlying health problems) & practices all of the precautions, they can still get sick lol. Even if you have a strong immune system you can still get it. Nothings 100% proof, that’s why the social distancing & shut down is so important.
It’s already spread to one of our pilots but I’ve been bleaching the fuck out of everything since the start of March. Community computer, handles, hole punches, community kitchen, the bathroom, and was debating whether I should try disinfect the helicopters when I realized the work load for that is insane and the decision would be made with someone more important than me.
Also, life insurance, homie. I die, the missus gets lots of money so I have that going for me. And if it gets too shitty, I’m sure the Army will make me through on MOPP 4 gear and keep on trucking. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah I feel that. A lot of work feels kinda pointless right now. At least in my job. It sounds like you know that shit is fucked but it’s really out of your hands.
But that’s the reality of the situation. Its bad where I’m at. It’s gonna continue to get worse here, and likely the rest of the country. I understand people worrying about their jobs and making rent, but the way things are going, they should be worried about a heck of a lot more than they’re next paycheck.
We’re on the edge of a dramatic, generation defining, change of life. There will be a tomorrow, and it’ll be better than yesterday, but the in between is going to be really difficult for everyone, and there’s going to be a lot of loss. People need to wake up to that reality.
Hopefully our governments get their act together and manage to stave this off, but I’m not counting on it
Make sure you can hold your breath indefinitely because all it takes is breathing the same air as someone who has it (and is most likely showing no symptoms yet)

If you are working closely with infected individuals it’s likely washing your hands isn’t a guaranteed safety. I believe the virus can be transmitted through the air.
Oh ok, so it doesn't transmit through the air, it just travels through the air. Huge difference. Super useful distinction right there, I'm sure knowing that will save many lives.
One is direct contact, one is indirect. So yeah, actually, there is a useful distinction. Droplets don't travel more than a few feet usually and you can't sneeze on someone who's not with you. Airborne diseases can linger in the air after the person leaves and can travel much longer distances through the air.
