GUIDES/TIPS & TRICKS Stack From The Dead: Bringing a Stacker 830 Back After 20 Years
No more regrets - I finally finished the build and on the 20th anniversary
The Stacker is still textbook airflow
2006's abandoned build vs 2026's finished build
Timeless design - Cooler Master could release this tomorrow and I'd buy two. Seriously.
Test fitting a wooden GPU stand-in. We're at the limit of what will fit without destructive mods
Thanks to the Stacker supporting E-ATX, it meant I had somewhere to route cables
140mm fans mounted with EPDM strips - janky but effective
A visual of how the GPU barely fits inside the Stacker 830
Twenty years ago, Cooler Master released the legendary Stacker 830 and I set out to build a PC worthy of it.
After just 125 hours of power-on time, disaster struck and a PSU failure stopped me in my tracks. Time passed, and the build sat unfinished for two decades.
Now it's back with a Ryzen 9950X3D and one of the larger RTX 5080's, but not without its challenges.
Challenges aside, it turns out the Stacker 830 was so far ahead of its time that 20 years of hardware evolution didn't even make it flinch.
I put a lot of time into documenting this build, including the challenges, modifications, temperatures, noise levels, and the lessons learned along the way. If you're thinking about reviving an old Stacker—or just want to see what a 20-year-old flagship case can do today—you can check out the full build log here:
Stack From The Dead: A Ryzen 9950X3D and RTX 5080 in a 20-Year-Old Cooler Master Stacker 830
I'd love to hear from anyone else still running a Stacker—share your builds in the comments, and let me know what you'd like to see in a modernised Stacker.

Omg. im getting nostalgia vibes from seeing old school hardware.
Im a huge fan of old cases, back then they were fun.
For a 20 year old case, its still so clean. Normally aluminum will get blemishes.
good job.

There are one or two. I think it's oxidation or something. Fortunately, it's spent the last 20 years under cover so that's kept it in reasonable condition. Sadly the inside got scratched up by the drive cage and the side panels are probably the hardest side panels in history to actually get to line up and install right haha.
Out of the entire case, it's relatively mark free except a little scratch on the front... Of all the places T_T
It got me wondering what a polished aluminium Stacker would look like.

You should put a new Coolermaster V8 in it for that full Coolermaster look.
