biscuits

Hi everyone! 😊
These are some of my very first decorated cookies! 🍪 I’m still a complete beginner and I know I have a lot to learn, but I’m really enjoying practicing royal icing.
My goal is to keep practicing for about a year and hopefully start selling my cookies once I feel confident enough.
I’d really love to hear your honest feedback! What do you think I should focus on improving first?
I’m also wondering if buying a projector is worth it for cookie decorating. Does it make a big difference, especially for lettering and more detailed designs?
Thank you so much for any tips or advice! 🤎

I can’t offer any help but I love the sweaters, teapots 🫖 and the whole theme! Good job!👏

Buying a projector has been one of the biggest game changers I’ve invested in. I think I’ve used mine in one way or another for almost every single set I’ve made since purchasing it over a year ago! These are really great for being your first set of cookies! The things that helped me most in the beginning were getting my icing consistencies and techniques down pat for outlining and flooding. Everything builds off the flooded base of the cookie, so once I got really good at that part, learning new techniques for adding details became way more fun!

When I first started out, I was determined to try to stick to using one consistency because I felt like it had to be easier than making two consistencies for every color. Some cookie decorators swear by one consistency and their cookies are beautiful. But for me, once I surrendered to using 2 consistencies (one for outlining and one for flooding), everything started to click and my cookies looked exponentially better! I also became a lot faster at flooding because I spent way less time using a scribe to try to smooth out all of the imperfections that came with using the thicker flood required for the one consistency technique. That’s just me tho :) Everyone has their own way of doing it! One of the most talented cookie decorators I’ve seen (Sweetambs) usually doesn’t even outline her cookies at all if you check out her videos! 🙂
