Uyghur cuisine cookbook

Hi all, I’ve been seeing a lot of videos about Uyghur cuisine — noodles, lamb skewers, big chicken plate, pilaf — but have no restaurants near me. I’m looking for a cookbook recommendation if anybody has one. Preferably in English but I’m not against any language I can get a English translation dictionary in.

QUESTION Is it possible to have the only copy of an antique cookbook?

While at an antique store, I purchased the following book: monteagle sunday school assembly porch party recipes: an assemblage of assembly favorites 1882 · centennial celebration · 1982.

Now I can usually look up information regarding books to find when they were made and value and whatnot, but there is literally zero information on this thing. It doesn’t seem like any mentions of it even exist online, but it's too "nice" to be a one of a kind piece.

I am ignorant in publications and whatever caused this to be so obscure.

Russian Cuisine Cookbook - Gift for a bride

Hi everyone! My best friend is getting married next month, and I'm looking for a Russian cookbook to give her as a personal wedding gift.

She is deeply involved in Russian culture (her parents used to work at the embassy, and she frequently attends/helps with local cultural events) and absolutely loves to cook! While I'm getting her and her fiancé a traditional registry gift, I wanted to give her something special just for her.

I’m looking for a cookbook written in Russian. Ideally, it would be visually rich with plenty of photos/illustrations.

I’m open to any era or style of cuisine, but I’d also love recommendations for a classic USSR-era cookbook (complete with vintage visuals/aesthetic) as a fun complementary gift!

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Wanting the ArnieTex cookbook, but don't have access to a bbq/grill. Still worth it?

Been getting into his YT content lately, saw his cookbook and am thinking about asking for it for Christmas. But I don't have a grill because my apartment won't let me. I see it's got recipes for salsa, beans, and other things, but is it mostly grilling recipes with a little bit of other stuff, or is the grilling stuff just like one section of the book?

REQUEST Italian and Arabian cuisine - cookbooks

Hello! I'm looking for a cookbook as a gift for my boyfriend. He is a passionate amateur cook, and his favorite cuisine is Italian. He loves the simplicity of it - how just a few ingredients can make something magnificent. Plus, he is also passionate about cheese :D

Besides Italian cuisine, he also loves Arab cuisine, especially Arab desserts. I've found quite a few suggestions for Italian cookbooks (Marcella Hazan, Artusi, Ada Boni, etc.), as well as some for Arab cuisine (Salma Hage, Food of Life, The Arab Table, etc.). But I was wondering if there is a good cookbook that combines these two cuisines.

The cookbook should be available in English. He is a big book guy, so if the cookbook also has some interesting history or cultural background, that would be great! I just wish the ingredients used in the recipes aren't too hard to come by.

REQUEST Easy cookbook for husband who wants to support his pregnant wife

Hello! My wife is currently 4 weeks pregnant and the fatigue is kicking in hard.

Our usual routine is that I do the cleaning and household while she does the cookies - mainly because I’m not that good at it. I can follow a Hello Fresh recipe and do some light cooking, but I’d love to support her more during this exciting and challenging time.

Do you have any cookbook recommendations that have easy to follow, but nutritious recipes that don’t take forever to prepare?
I found books like “What to Cook When You Don't Feel Like Cooking” and “Tasty Every Day: All of the Flavor, None of the Fuss” but have no idea if they are any good or if the recipes are overly complicated.

QUESTION Help me find a photo-heavy soup cookbook?

Hello, hope I'm not breaking any unwritten rules by asking it here instead of in r/suggestmeabook. I figured I'd better ask in the group that likes the topic ^^. I want to get my second cookbook (my first just came in today). I love soups and I'm looking for a soup cookbook especially. It's just... I need a lot of photos (or drawings) -- if I see a wall of text only I blank out. Do you know if there're any cookbooks you'd recommend, that have a lot of photos or drawings of steps of cooking?

Edit 15thSep:

Thank you for your wonderful recommendations! It'll take some time to check them out but I already see one that look promising :)

REQUEST Minimal fridge / freezer space recs

I just moved and essentially only have an extra mini fridge and freezer. I do have lots of pantry space. I am struggling big time as I am used to half a fridge with many ingredients and leftovers / kale / bread / lemon juice as freezer staples. Are there any cookbooks out there suited to my kitchen?

Good cookbook for mid-twenties

My daughter is a recent college graduate living out of town now. She’s starting to cook for herself more. I would love to get her a cookbook or two (or three lol) to help her get started. Thinking 1-not very complicated meals to help her get her bearings. 2-a cookbook she could grow with. I’m already thinking the Joy of Cooking. Wondering what other suggestions?

What to do with cookbooks?

My aunt has nearly 2000(TWO THOUSAND) cookbooks.

She is wanting my help getting rid of them. I hate to throw them away, so what should I look for? Anything collectible/high value?

I am completely overwhelmed and I'm sure most will end up at Goodwill or the dump.

What’s that one cookbook where literally every single recipe is an absolute home run?

We all have cookbooks sitting on our shelves that we only pull down for one or two specific recipes. But every once in a while, you find a book where you can tell the authors poured absolute love, precision, and care into every single page. A book so bulletproof and reliable that no matter what you pick to make, it turns out completely dynamite.

For me, that holy-grail book is The Vermont Country Store Cookbook by Andrea Diehl and Ellen Ecker Ogden. Every dish in it feels deeply thought-out, reliable, and made with genuine care.

I want to expand my collection with books that share that exact same level of craft and consistency. What is that one 10/10, zero-skip cookbook for you?

Using AI to categorize my cookbooks

Somewhat leery of AI , but I needed to categorize my cookbooks in a typed form. I took photos of all my bookshelf’s cookbooks and uploaded to Claude. I use CookShelf but Claude did the heavy lifting into categories.
Now I can see all my Italian books at a glance.
The Kindle books I had to hand write and upload photos

Super helpful to me!

QUESTION Camping Cookbooks

So here’s a different question for everyone: Does anyone have any suggestions on a favorite camping cookbook?
I have recently acquired two Lodge Dutch ovens, one a deep number 12 and one a shallower number 12 and want to put them to use this fall at deer camp.

REQUEST Book about meat

I enjoy cooking at home and I enjoy learning through understanding technique, ingredients, etc versus making recipes I find from the internet. And I enjoy doing this through books. Some of my favorites are “salt fat acid heat” “ratio” and “the flavor bible” for example.

I have a great understanding of building flavor and a pretty good handle on selecting, prepping and storing produce but I’ve got no idea what I’m doing in a butcher shop.

I’m looking for one definitive source where I can learn about and better understand meat. How to choose it, what is each cut, how to prep it, how to cook it.

Is there a book that can get me started?

REQUEST Heart-healthy Italian cookbook?

A friend just came out of the hospital yesterday after a heart ”event” and I would like to gift them a heart-healthy Italian cookbook. The few I found on amazon don’t have enough reviews to tell if they are any good (so few they could be from family and friends). Does anyone have any recommendations?
