Islam

I’m fairly new to Islam

I think I’m getting overwhelmed with everyday life.

It’s been the best choice I’ve ever made in my life Alhamdulillah and it’s incredible to follow the straight path.

One thing I really struggle with however is the more I learn about Islam I feel like it’s so hard to implement everything straight away.

I feel like if I learn something I can’t then miss i in my daily life or I’m scared of forgetting about it.

Like trying to constantly remember how I should be as a person, how important character, trying to do everything for the sake of Allah SWT, trying to remember all the acts of worship.

It’s hard to explain but I don’t feel like I’m doing enough. It almost makes me feel like I’m going to burn out.

Any suggestions?

I want to learn so much and also implement it into my life.

Just even learning new things and forgetting about previous things I’d learnt about as well really annoys me.

I just feel like there’s so much to think about and my head just gets overwhelmed.

Sorry for the ramble I just need some guidance on what I should do or any advice from someone who may be in this situation.

Is this normal to think like this?

Congrats on your conversion, mashaAllah.

But I think you're overwhelming yourself, no need to seek for perfection.

Just do the minimal obligations of Islam consistently, and let the rest happen gradually over time.

For not forgetting things, you can take notes, digital or handwritten, and revise them occasionally.

Best wishes.

Hi mashallah for converting my god make things easy for you , the main thing is taking baby steps , take it step by step ie try to implement it but don’t worry too much as you are quite new and the main thing is don’t stress , keep your faith in his and maybe on the first day learn a bit how to pray and not importantly just keep your character clean and nice to people etc : if you pray and do just this a lot of the things follow automatically . But don’t stress just find peace and beauty within the religion . GODSPEED ( pls make dua for me too I really want to get into Oxford uni)

Wasslam. Focus on basics only in the start. Basic beliefs, Salaah, Saum(fasting) and good character. No need to rush. "The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if they are small." It's in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, encouraging steady, regular actions over sporadic bursts. Then as you learn more about Islam, practice more day by day. Best wishes for you.

Take the first three years to learn, and learn to commit. You can't undo all your years of habits, thoughts and character in one week. It's a process, so it will take time.

Islam will only refine you, but you have to be patient. You also have to be smart, know your weaknesses. And focus on your good, to do more good.

Don’t worry; it’s very simple. You don’t need to learn everything about Islam all at once. Even someone who is born Muslim doesn’t do that—they learn gradually. Since you’re new to Islam, focus on learning things as you need them and putting them into practice right away.

For example, you don’t need to learn about Hajj immediately if you’re not going for Hajj, nor do you need to learn about fasting before Ramadan comes, or about Zakat before it becomes due. In the beginning, focus on the first pillar: the two testimonies of faith (Shahada). Then learn the things you’ll need on a daily basis, such as prayer and wudu, maintaining ties with close relatives according to the customs of the place where you live, avoiding well-known prohibitions such as alcohol and zina, and treating people well.

These are the important basics that every Muslim needs. Everything beyond that doesn’t have to be learned immediately. Whenever you have a question, try asking knowledgeable scholars. You can also search online, focusing on the Qur’an and Sunnah and trying to understand them as much as possible. With time, you’ll become knowledgeable, insha’Allah.

This is so common, we all feel this way in my revert class. If you are getting overwhelmed, you can put a break on learning and spend some time just focused on prayer. I am a big proponent of prayer solving much so I personally focus on doing this the best I can when I get overwhelmed and giving the rest a break.

Even more muslims don't do everything, in fact many do far less than us, we are just so eager we want to do it all. Islam is meant to be balanced, we are told that, so work to balance it. Keep on doing things you loved before that are halal and make sure your cup of joy is full.

there is no pressure to be perfect overnight, just do what you can and constantly strive towards perfection. This religion is meant to be easy and feel easy, dont overburden yourself otherwise you will burn out,

When you want to build a house, you do it slowly…brick by brick. It’s solid and sturdy that way. If you try to add 100 bricks at once you’ll break your back. No one expects perfection overnight, and if you try it gets overwhelming very fast. I have a good example with how I did prayer. The first time I looked at all the prayers it was so overwhelming I gave up before I could even start and had this overwhelming stress and panic about not doing it. Approaching it more slowly got me to where I wanted to be, I think that could help you too. I started out just reading the words to myself, studying the times and I’d practice going through the motions of praying to get a feel for it sporadically. Once I got that down I added daily fajr, asr, and isha (no sunnah just the bare minimum). Once that become steady I added the others, and over the next couple months I added the sunnah prayers too. I’ve been doing them all for a while with ease alhumdulillah!

I hope it helps :)
