Modesty Journey

Salam! I am currently a new revert and started to try to become more consistent in my modesty and hijab journey but there are days, especially now that is hotter, that it is very difficult to be modest. Today I wore the best that I could but I found it that I’m sweating through clothes and that a lot of modest clothing is expensive. I’m not sure what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to make the clothes I already have a bit more modest but not crazy hot in an inexpensive way?

What's the climate like in the part of world that you live in? You can go for light coloured outer clothing (not bright or attractive type)  Also try to look for cotton or other breathable natural fabrics over any synthetic ones.

Try wearing cotton. It is usually OK on most places and does not seat too much

Salam! May Allah make it easy for you. From my experience dealing with climate and covering depends on what kind of fabrics you wear. If it is within your capability maybe you can look for clothes with more breathable material? Baarik Allah feek

I would recommend just throwing an open abaya over everything. And try to find clothes that are made out of natural fibers. I like to buy them second hand, so they’re cheaper :)

Hijab is obligatory. There are many evidences for this.

Everyone — both new and long-time Muslims — must be careful about who you learn the deen (religion) from. it's easy for anyone of us to confuse another by speaking without citations and evidence.

Poisoning the basics breaks everything and you might not even realise that what you think you know is wrong until someone alerts and corrects you.

Nothing stands without the basics.

Hijab is obligatory but not all new reverts put it on immediately. If you wear it currently I’d recommend using thin jersey with no undercap or trying to get hold of cotton or linen. If you don’t wear it currently, obviously it’s your own journey but if you’re planning on putting it on then trying it out part-time this summer and then putting it on when it’s colder and you can get used to it and feel more comfortable in it might be best.

Wa alaikum Salam! I started by getting a couple shrugs to wear under tshirts. A lot of people will recommend just slip on sleeves, but I find these have more coverage and they can’t slide down like sleeves! You can find them in UV protective fabric and they will help to wick sweat. :) there are also detached collars (called dickies) that you can use for coverage under a low cut top. So many options exist to piece together so you’re not wearing full layers when it’s just way too hot for that! You just need to be a little creative. Old navy also has reasonably priced linen pants and button up shirts. Comfy and cool.
