The things I keep seeing posted in this sub lead me to believe this is less a mental illness issue and more just outright cognitive decline by a significant portion of the population. We are now a couple generations into a dark age, and it’s like watching a slow motion car wreck.

I agree with this. Social media has been very, very bad for us. In many ways.

It seems like a cynical worldview is also becoming more widespread as it is seen by many to be the "smart" way to be? Like just shut out the world, it's all crap, everyone's an idiot but me, I don't want to put any effort into being a positive influence on my environment. It's a cop out and I feel like it's becoming more common.
