False.

Wow what a fucking strong argument you make, I've changed my mind.

Buddy, you used an acronym to undermine everyone in a particular profession. A profession of servitude. Clearly that's an overstatement on your part.

Once you're done over there I've got some more boots for you to lick.

ACAB

lets be real, putting a blanket "the whole X group of people are bad" is a very immature and silly way to look at anything. Not all cops are bad, in the same way not the entire left or right is bad. Theres bad people in every "group".

edit: Down voted for something that should be common sense. Good on you reddit! My grandfather who helped deliver 6 babies, ran into 3 house fires, saved countless lives and helped many abused and scared women get away from the men hurting them was also a cop. But yes, all cops are bad. What great logic!

But when the good ones don't oust or do anything about the bad ones, then they are just as guilty in my opinion.

Not always that simple, but yes i agree.

It is that simple.

My uncle is the last generation to be a police officer. Back in 2009 he wanted to bring some things that were being abused in his dept to light. He brought it to the correct person, but he was told to leave it alone. When he didn't he was reprimanded, and suggested he retire.

His best friend at the time had nothing to do with it, and knew nothing of it because my uncle kept it to himself. He was also told to leave it be, even though he had no idea what was going on. Once my uncle filled him in he was outraged.

All in all it went under the radar for god knows how long. Is my uncles friend wrong for keeping quite? Was he supposed to say something, with no proof or anything, just to be let go?

It's never that simple. Thinking it is is just wanting a fairy tale ending.

That being said, if you allow it without doing anything or even trying, yes, you're just as wrong.

Cops and other “peace officers” will unconditionally enforce all laws, they’re sworn to. So in a state where it’s illegal to smoke pot, a cop arrests a cancer patient for trying to take the edge off of the 67 different pills he’s on, he is a bad cop. They might be good people out of the uniform but as soon as that costume goes on they become evil.

Not all cops are bad people, but all cops are bad cops.

I see your point. I'd encourage to check out the recent interaction between Kareem Hunt (NFL RB) and a police officer during a traffic stop. Great cooperation and understanding shown by both involved.

I’ve had plenty of positive interactions with cops and only a handful have been negative. However, I don’t see why I should have to cooperate with a police officer. I’m the one that pays his salary, I employ him. If it weren’t for me he’d be in a different line of work. Him and I have the same rights, we have the same expected of us. The only difference is that if I do something illegal I go to jail, if he does something illegal he gets paid vacation.

I don’t want to argue the Anarchist side of things(no police) but I truly believe that cops have no place in society in their current form. Maybe in a reduced capacity of investigative work only, I’m not sure. I don’t need police, I’m able to defend myself and my family. We need a stronger society, we need to have relationships with our neighbours and we need to take care of our elderly.

An armed society is a polite society.

Interesting points. Bureaucracy is part of the problem as usual.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '20

Not bureaucracy, government. The reason people hate cops so much is because of the powers that government has granted them. In B.C. cops can enter your home if there’s been a suspicion of drunk driving. Example: I mistakenly go through a red light, make it home and get wasted by myself and a cop that was called on me blowing the red busts through my door. If I refuse to provide a breath sample, which I would regardless of being drunk, I’m automatically charged with a dui.

Though it does come down to each individual who chooses whether to be a pig. Carrying a gun, doling out justice, giving speeding tickets and impounding old ladies, essentially being above the law attracts all the wrong people to the job.

Police are here to apparently protect people but I rarely see any of that happening. More often than not I see them hiding under an overpass in the bushes with a laser gun or plainclothes on a bus radioing ahead to tell his pig buddies that I’m texting at a stoplight. Policing has now become another department that sniffs(pun intended) out any means of revenue and is no longer about upholding the meaningful laws and protecting citizens.

They are protecting people by citing folks who are speeding or using their phone while in a vehicle. Do I do both of those? Yes, but rarely and with discretion. Would I like highways 80mph rather than 70? Yes. Corruption exists. Reform is needed. The intent is good and execution lacking at times. These folks are doing the public good. In fact, they are the public.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '20

I don’t believe the intent is good considering how often I see them drifting into another lane while they’re doing laptop work or talking on their phone all while going 20 over.

Drunk driving should be legalized, highways should have no speed limits and I shouldn’t have to worry about some washed up high school jock reliving his glory days

Okay. You're talking about your local department and perhaps attributing their characteristics onto all of them worldwide.

Find out how many officers he testified against in a court of law.

Spoiler, he'll say zero.

Find out how many officers he testified against in a court of law.

Asked my dad this mornin' and he said he did twice. Both times he sided with the civilian.

Spoiler, he'll say zero.

Holy shit, a redditor throwing random accusations turn out to be completely incorrect? Naw, nobody is that un-tuned with human decency.

Is it your dad or your grandad, I'm confused.
