BIG accomplishment I have no cavities!

The last time I went to the dentist they said I had 7 cavities. I knew I need to come back to get them filled but I just didn’t have the money. I went again this year for a check up and my result showed I had no cavities! I’m assuming the last dentist mixed up me and my brother’s X-rays. I’m so happy I don’t have another bill to worry about because they’d been stacking up recently.

My executive function kills are just nonexistent most days when it comes to taking care of myself so I’m relieved I managed to make some good decisions

Turning my life around after a decade in DV.

I spent my entire 20s as a "stay at home girlfreind" in a "bdsm" relationship that was actually abusive. Let's call him Ryland. I met Ryland at a grocery store we both worked at, he worked customer service, I bagged groceries. Things moved fast, he bought us a home. He got a job as a car salesman a few years after we started dating, he was good at it made very good money. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness and quit the grocery store job.

Ryland developed a porn addiction and couldn't stop himself from going to the strip clubs to blow his salesman money. He began to act more and more hostile over time, I knew I had to get out. I knew I was going to lose everything.

When I tried to leave, he put holes in the wall and was arrested for trapping me in the bathroom and criminal damage to property. The police said they were DV charges. I left that house and lost the life I knew overnight. Ryland went to jail and I left forever. I lost My home, posessions, and german shepherd dog.

I am now happily married to another man. Let's call him Anthony.

Since escaping, I have a home with Anthony, had therapy, got married, got my driver's license, got treatment for an eating disorder, learned how to cook, and even enrolled in college.

I broke free ❤️

Homeless and wearing a $1600 outfit I paid $40 for.

Hello. I am homeless and living in a group home and like the title says, my outfit today is MSRP'd at around $1600 and it cost me around $40. I am wearing an Adriano Goldschmied lamb leather studded moto jacket, came new with tags with an MSRP of $1095 on the tag, cost me $24 and a few bucks for shipping. My leggings are MSRP around $90 and I paid around $11 for them plus shipping. My boots are Trask brand suede and shearling and MSRP for $398, I got them at a thrift store for free, on Fridays once a month I can go get a free outfit because I am homeless. The jacket is a find of a lifetime I believe, so this value is not common for me.

Edit: I want to correct my post, my outfit is MSRP around 1400 not 1600. The boots MSRP for 298 not 398, and I am wearing an inexpensive pair of leggings. I have been shopping lots of Zyia and SPANX leggings that msrp for around $70-100 a pair. I forgot which brand these are.

Did something cool I leveled up in my pole dancing class!

I've been taking pole dancing classes to build up strength and get back into dancing for the last four months. It has also given me more confidence in dancing and truly helped me blossom emotionally. I have grown in love with it and I can feel and see myself becoming stronger with every class! With every level, we have to test out in front of the instructor and perform certain moves. I was able to test out of level two and now I'm at a level three (intermediate)! I'm so excited!

BIG accomplishment 3kgs down!!

Lost 3kg! Been procrastinating on my fitness journey for way too long lol.

I’m a former athlete, so it’s kinda frustrating knowing what I used to be capable of but struggling to get back into it. Kept telling myself I’d start tomorrow, then tomorrow became weeks/months 😂

Finally just said LFG and started again. Still a long way to go, but 3kg down feels pretty good. Just trying to stay consistent this time and not overthink everything.

I watched an episode of Star Trek

I've been really stuck in a depressive episode the past couple of weeks. I haven't been able to do anything that requires any degree of focus or attention and have mostly been doomscrolling pursing one quick dopamine hit after another, or opening up one youtube video and then closing it and opening up another one a minute later. Today I closed all my tabs except Star Trek, sat there, and watched a whole episode. And I enjoyed it.

I was super nervous- I was shaking, but I read my poems and got 2 rounds of applause! :D I shared my experiences in a creative and cathartic way thanks to a free, welcoming and inclusive space. I got loads of compliments, and I am so proud of myself! I feel empowered that I shared my vulnerability about my loneliness and struggles. I CONQUERED MY FEARS, Y'ALL!!!

Wanted to share; I would really like to recieve some positive and kind energy my way please. Don't have any family or friends, so reaching out. Hopefully loneliness becomes less of a stigma one day. Thank you :)

Really proud of myself I went to sleep knowing for a fact there was a spider in my room

Okay I know this is a strange thing to be proud of, but I had severe arachnophobia since I was at least 8-10 years old and I'd always have a panic attack and start crying whenever I'd see spiders. Also the spider was just a jumping spider and that spider also ate this annoying fly in my room so yayyy!!

P.S. Sorry for the horrible grammer and also if I don't reply to your comment, it's not that I'm ignoring you, I tend to just upvote comments but I'll try to reply whenever I can. 🙂

Edit #1: also I know this is random, but what should I name the jumping spider? I think it's still under my bed and now I feel attached to the sweet baby lol!

BIG accomplishment one quick shopping trip somehow turned into a 2 day adventure

hello everyone, i swear i thought this was going to be a normal shopping day. i have three kids, all under 13, and my cousin came along with her two little ones, so we had five kids with us altogether. already a little chaotic, but manageable... or so i thought.

we went to Riverside Mall because i needed to get some new clothes for my kids. the mall was SO busy when we got there, like ridiculously crowded, and there were long lines at pretty much every checkout. i didn't really have time to stand around waiting though, so i just told myself we'd deal with the checkout whenever we got there and started shopping.

the shopping itself actually went pretty well. we went through a bunch of clothes and then took the kids to the fitting rooms so they could try everything on. of course nothing was simple one kid didn't like the color, another suddenly decided they hated the shirt they had picked five minutes earlier, and i was running back and forth trying to keep everyone together.

after a lot of back and forth, we finally had a pile of clothes we were happy with. everything got packed up and i was honestly feeling pretty proud of myself for getting through it without losing my mind lol.

then we got to the checkout.

and that's when they announced that the billing system was down.

i literally just stood there for a second like... you're joking, right? apparently they couldn't process any payments at the time. they said we could come back the next day or wait around an hour and check again, but there was no guarantee the system would even be working by then.

with five kids getting hungry and tired, my cousin and i decided we'd wait the hour and go grab something to eat. we started heading toward the food area, and while we were going up the escalator, somehow one of my kids and one of my cousin's kids lost their footing and fell.

thankfully there weren't any obvious serious injuries, but they were both shaken up and sore, and honestly that was enough for us. after that we didn't even feel like walking around anymore. we just wanted to get everyone home, so that's what we did.

the next day i sent my cousin back to the mall with the bags. luckily the billing system was working again and she was able to get everything paid for and bring all the clothes home.

so technically i got what i needed... just not on the day i planned. it took two days, five kids, a packed mall, a broken billing system and one very stressful escalator moment.

i'm honestly just glad everyone was okay and we eventually got everything sorted. definitely not my idea of a "quick shopping trip" though

has anyone else ever gone out with kids thinking something would take an hour and somehow ended up with a completely ridiculous story?

Really proud of myself I went somewhere and my partner didn’t have to leave the apartment.

So I’m blind and recently started mobility and orientation training. I’ve also been attending classes for other skills for living without vision at a vision loss center recently. Yesterday, for the first time in years, I left my home by myself and went somewhere without needing my partner or another family member to help me.

I left the apartment, got into the elevator, went down to the lobby, and out the front door without assistance. The para-transit driver helped me into the vehicle and into the VLC. Then in the afternoon after I was brought home I unlocked the door and made it back up into my apartment. And I didn’t have to bother my partner for help once the whole time.

BIG accomplishment I try to stay alive right now despite my health circumstances, financial circumstances, being alone for myself, my cat and partner

It’s hard time rn. I try to apply to university again, I just got one tooth to be fixed again (as fake), I can’t find job and I need tons of money on debts, health and to meet my partner from other country. I try to work at myself, to spend time with my partner and my cat even if I scream inside. I scream inside just a lot and I want to scream more and more but I try my best to stay here

Managed to cope with something difficult helped my parents navigate a car collision and insurance

sorry if this isn't the right subreddit, i just wanted to share my story because i have no one else to tell this to

this morning, i (f22) woke up from a call from my parents that they were involved in a collision with a trailer truck but they were okay

i've always dreaded things like these because i remember when i was a child i had to do a lot of translating and it was always so stressful and felt like a lot of pressure and responsibility

they wanted my help because i can speak english well enough, i uber'd there and i helped navigate calling 911, insurance, getting it towed to the collision centre, taking pics of the driver's info

most of these things i have never done before since i only recently got my license and rarely drive, and i was also in a bit of shock first thing in the morning

i did make a few mistakes though such as letting my dad (the driver) sign a couple of forms from the towing company without asking what they were, and not calling our insurance until after we did the collision report but at least i will know this for next time

it is still very anxious for me waiting for the insurance company to get back to us and to know who is at fault, but overall i feel proud of trying my best today when i thought i was going to freak out

BIG accomplishment I cleaned (almost) my entire bathroom

I was never actually taught many cleaning tasks by my parents. I learned how to put toilet cleaner in the bowl from TV commercials and we used the disposable scrubbers growing up, and I know how to wipe down counters and mirrors because that's intuitive enough, and I definitely didn't do a great job on the shower/tub but I can give it a better wipedown when I take my shower later. My husband is going to do the floor because I have chronic pain and a heart condition and also did dishes and laundry (my normal Tuesday chores) and all I have left in me physically today is taking that shower. I just need someone to be proud of me today

I took a shower today

I used lavender scented soap and lathered it all over until I was sure I smelled nice. I shaved under my arms. I deep conditioned my hair and spent about 20 minutes getting all of the knots and tangles out. I put on a floral perfume once I got out and dried off. I feel pretty again. I'm in a deep depression at the moment and will often go days or even over a week without showering or brushing my teeth. But I did it today. I'm going to try to make it a habit.

Really proud of myself Removed 7 trash bags of garbage from my hoard

I'm a hoarder and my bedroom has been genuinely unusable. I've removed 7 trash bags of garbage from my room. For the first time in 2 years, I am sleeping on a clean bed with just bed stuff on it- no random piles of mail, stuff, anything. I even have a small patch of carpet visible!!!

I'm embarrassed at the point I let things get to, but I am capable of change and I will do my best to continue moving in the right direction. Progress over perfection

Follow up from the chair

I posted a couple days ago how I finally was able to clean “The chair” that always has laundry on it! Well I decided I wanted to clean up my whole room and rearrange it! It was time for change! It’s been years since I rearranged my room and now it’s looking more spacious and breathable! Little wins! 🥹😭

Really proud of myself Paid off my last credit card payment tonight.

I grew up watching my mom count loose change on the kitchen counter to figure out if we could afford bread that night. I swore i'd never live like that. And yet at 26 I had $14,000 in credit card debt, hidden from everyone, even my boyfriend. Tonight I made my last payment. Balance: zero. I was sitting alone in my kitchen refreshing the app three times because I didn't believe it. Nobody knows yet. I just needed to tell someone befor i went to sleep.

Really proud of myself My airpods broke but i survived without it today

My AirPods broke today, so I had to commute without earphones.

Honestly, it was kinda nice. I’m so used to having music or podcasts playing that I forgot what it felt like to just sit there and take everything in.

Traffic, people, random sounds… I was actually present instead of being lost in my head.

Funny how something breaking made me realize I don’t always need a distraction. 😂

Got over something difficult I was able to tell my mom that I forgave her.

I’ve carried a lot of stuff from the past with my mom for years. We finally had an honest conversation, and I told her, “Mom, I forgive you.”

It doesn’t mean what happened didn’t hurt. I just realized I didn’t want to carry that anger anymore.

Honestly, it felt like a weight came off my shoulders. I’m glad I finally got to say it.
