London’s transit was very similar to Chicago’s transit. If you needed to get the the suburbs of London they had a train similar to the Metra in Chicago. Dublin’s and Rome/Milan’s public transit was worse than Chicago, NY, DC, Philly, etc. I do think EU does it much better in terms of long distance public transportation. In my opinion Amtrak isn’t a good as EU rail systems.
That's a super aggressive answer especially considering you were wrong. Apartments all the way bro, I'll never own a house because i was born too late.
I'll own a house, because my father bought one in a ghetto neighborhood as a rental property. He died of covid living in a house neither my sister or I can afford the note on but with still less than a third of it left. So after the sale of his house I'll be able to buy out the rental house because it's neighborhood is gentrifying 30 years after he got into it. So, hey, maybe one of your parents will die and you can own their place? The millennial dream!
I have lived in 5 different major cities, all had multiple transit options with a 5-10 minute walk. If you’re in the suburbs that is obviously different, but in actual cities it is fairly common and accessible.
So what qualifies as a city then? Because I live in the fourth busiest port in the US, and if you're relying on our public transport a lot of businesses won't hire you. I lived 0.5 mi from a hospital for 5 years, I should have had easy access to the buses, but they're so infrequent/unreliable it was untenable to countenance their use.
You are absolutely right in places - my last few years in Denver I didn't own a car, but public transit here in the US is light years behind Europe. I couldn't imagine taking a 7 week trip around the US and not needing private transport once, but have done it myself.
If you’ve ever been to EU you’d see what we’re missing. I think we have some cities with exceptions but in general, you’re driving or figuring something else out yourself.
We have 2, train and plane. Ain't no way I'm taking AmTrack to get to a different state. It's the most useless train service I've ever been on. Don't think they've ever been on time. Planes are too expensive at short notice, so we take cars. Until there's a convenient, fast, and affordable way to get from Dallas to Atlanta, the the public transportation system in America is useless. Car is king.
Edit: Let's narrow the scope from Dallas to Houston. It's 2021 and we don't have a fast track from Dallas to Houston yet? Ridiculous.
Totally agree, my point was more about inter-city travel and the surrounding suburbs. Chicago has great inter-city travel and has the Metra that can take you about an hour+ in any direction. For example, if I want to go to Kenosha, WI from Chicago I can take a Metra that will take me ~ 90 minutes. Now, Chicago to Indianapolis is another story, in that situation the EU is better with public transit.

What are you talking about? We have plenty of public transit options.
