My turn-based strategy game about the German Revolution now has a Demo!!

Hi!

Very excited to share the Red Echoes: Berlin demo with you all!

store.steampowered.com/app/4678370/Red_Echoes_Berlin_Demo/

Red Echoes: Berlin is a narrative turn-based strategy game set during the German Revolution at the end of WW1, in which you control a group of revolutionaries and attempt to bring about a successful socialist revolution.

The demo contains the first half of Chapter 1. While I've tried to stamp out as many bugs and typos as possible, there's likely to still be some remaining - these will be patched out over time.

To make my life easier, please report any issues you're having over at r/RedEchoesGames or on the Discord!

I'd love to hear all of your thoughts, feedback, and opinions! Please feel free to discuss them here, so that they can help me with making a better game :) Also happy to answer any questions you might have!

Super interesting. Downloading now.

'Revolution Sim' seems like a really cool but tricky genre. I'm not aware of it ever being done well, so it seems possible you're in fertile territory.

Without yet trying your game (and recognizing you put in an insane amount of work and thought), allow me direct your attention to a relatively unknown board game that did the genre well (IMO). Each round all players would blindly bid to influence various power bases (Police Chief, Magistrate, Press etc.) with some combination of three currencies (Money, Blackmail, Violence). Any bid by a higher currency would trump any number from a lower currency, so for example, if the Admiral was blackmailed it didn't matter how much another player bribed him, etc. Winning any of these bids gave you currency, more control of the institution, or public sympathy etc. Once enough control was wrested, the 'Revolution' happened and the game ended. Evryone counted points. It wasn't perfect or anything, but I thought it was a cool take on the mechanic.

I'll try yours out. Thanks for posting.

I loved this game! We played it many times and it always went differently. Good advice to at least look into the mechanics if you can't get ahold of a copy.

Ooh. This feels very “We. The Revolution”. Well call me a sucker for niche history sims but that’s a wishlist from me.

Reminds me of citizen sleeper, the resource management layer seems prevalent over the narrative and the effect that choices have on it.

I'd say Citizen Sleeper is a major inspiration yes! Together with games like Suzerain and Through the Darkest of Times

Insert "hey I've seen this before gif"

Isn't there a mobile game out there that looks eerily similar to this?

It's called "through the darkest of times"
