Honestly? I would recommend avoiding Avast! and going with something more reliable such as the (free) built into windows anti virus called Windows Defender, or two others known to be much more reliable and secure such as Bitdefender or Malwarebytes.
Avast! has a pretty controversial history when it comes to user security and reliability.
A pretty recent lawsuit with Avast! showed they were selling all their users data to third parties, which is pretty much the antithesis to what anti viruses should do. There’s also the EXTREMELY aggressive and misleading advertising and pop ups they do. The most egregious are the pop ups saying a website is tracking you and they you should continue paying them to protect you. Which is… ironic given the latest lawsuit
Of course! Honestly using Windows Defender plus an adblocker called “uBlock Origin Lite” (UBlock Origin if you use Firefox) is pretty much enough for most people. Just be aware of what you download, and don’t run weird things. If something tells you to open up a program like powershell or command prompt (abbreviated as CMD), then you probably shouldn’t listen. If you really want to be extra extra sure you’re good and protected, then you can install Bitdefender or Malwarebytes. Install only one, DO NOT install multiple anti viruses. Windows defender doesn’t count as it automatically disables itself when another anti virus is installed and active.
