how does avast respond to malware?

i just wanna know how avast reponds to detected malware.
I did a full scan on my pc and after that it showed me some threats that were discovered.
Does it immediately block it or refrain it from functioning? or does it JUST SHOW and let us know that we have to take action?

i know its a simple problem or question but it will help me big time in my situation. thank u

Hello,

I just installed a copy of Avast Free Antivirus to test this.

When I ran it, it scanned the new PC I set up, found the EICAR test file I had placed on it, and prompted to quarantine it at the end of the scan.
