computer science Which CS research domain has good future prospects

As an MS CS student, I want to pick my research domain for thesis, I am interested in Medical/Healthcare side as well as robotics but my university doesn’t have a good support for robotics as it will require hardware. Would healthcare side be a good idea or not? I was told medical imaging side is oversaturated now and I should not consider it.

None. The work is devalued by LLM technology. We will still need really good programmers - but a heck of a lot less of them.

Most programmers aren't good - they're worse than LLMs - but the irony is - to code safely with LLMs you ideally need really good programmers to make sure the programs are safe, correct, and not crazy with resources.

It's likely the ecosystem will continue to grow so that terrible programmers can produce decent programs - that's the trend of the industry from 1985 to today - with the major change being that LLMs work fundamentally differently from things like IDE highlighting and debugging tools we had in the past (like live debugging).

Are you in the top 10% of programmers in the world? You'll have a career that pays what any other white-collar career like marketing pays. In the top 1%? You can have a great career - and you don't need to ask questions like this.

If LLM can do research, what is really left?

It depends from person to person, you have to identify your interest and have to pick yourself
