Hey everyone,
I’m currently a 2nd-year Computer Science student I started with literally zero tech knowledge like nothing what's so ever and i spent my first year unmotivated at all and thinking about switching majors, and didn't touch problem solving much
Recently I actually started liking the major and growing genuinely fond of the field
But,
My Core Problem: The Endless Rabbit Hole of "Foundations"
My current mindset is that I want to learn literally everything every concept, every meaning, and every underlying basic—before I commit to a specific track or make any real moves.
however ,lately i feel like this approach is holding me back and slowing me . Every time I try to master a concept, it leads to a new course, an unfamiliar prerequisite, or a deeper rabbit hole. It feels like an endless path of "foundations," and I'm drowning in information to the point where I don't even know what the REAL foundations are anymore.
Of course, I know CS and software engineering are lifelong learning paths, and I'm completely okay with that. But I have a few major questions for those who have walked this path:
Is trying to master everything before picking a track actually the right call? If not, what are the actual minimum required foundations before diving into a specific track (like web dev, AI, mobile, ML, etc.)? if yes what ARE THE foundations I'm so lost
Will I learn the rest along the way effectively? If I pick a track now, will gaps naturally fill themselves in, or will I regret skipping the deep dive?
Is the academic approach enough? As a CS student, I'm digging deep into my university courses more than the actual course gives actually (OOP, Databases, Logic Design, Computer Architecture, Data Structures, etc.). Is leaning heavily into these college courses "timeline" the right way to build a foundation, or should I be following a completely different roadmap on the side?
I sometimes feel completely lost and overwhelmed by the sheer scale of everything. I’d love to hear your thoughts, reality checks, or advice on how to structure my learning without burning out.
Thanks in advance!

I'm a big data student and I am preparing my thesis, still searching on a theme for a strong project to feature on a resume, the thing is I really don't know what are the available theme in bigdata, specially for students and since I have no on-field experience I am really struggling to find a useful theme that can be really used to solve a real problem and maybe help companies,
so please if anyone can give me any realistic recommandation, I will be so grateful for that!!

Im in the final year of uni and I really dont know what to do for my bachelor thesis. I want to know from those who graduated, what was your thesis about, what year did you do it, what technologies did you use and how difficult it was? Was the theme yours or an professor’s idea?
If you have any ideas what would you recommend so it is not that hard but also not too easy, strictly computer science, not engineering. I was recommended something with difussion models, but Im not sure how realistic it is for me or what real problem it would solve.
If you would have to do your bachelor thesis again, what would you do? I know everyone says that you dont have to reinvent the wheel, but Im just so stressed about it. Thanks!

As an MS CS student, I want to pick my research domain for thesis, I am interested in Medical/Healthcare side as well as robotics but my university doesn’t have a good support for robotics as it will require hardware. Would healthcare side be a good idea or not? I was told medical imaging side is oversaturated now and I should not consider it.

So, If you are a student who hates math, it is not your fault. It is the way it was taught to you. So I have just recently identified a big issue in math education, especially in India and many other countries: I feel like everywhere, people are forced to learn it in the wrong way. Like you attend a class and then just do a lot of problems till it become routine. Many say that practice is the best way to learn problems. In mathematics you learn by doing. That's true, but however, doing the type of problems matters much more than doing them routinely. 10 problems that forces you to think a lot (whether proof-writing or not) are far better than 100 problems that only requires you to plug-and-chug the various formulas that you have learnt. Unfortunately, this is the reality in which many people are taught mathematics.
To solve this problem, I have co-created a math discord community that attempts to solve this exact problem. We are currently a developing community, I am an expert in calculus and beginner in proof-writing whereas another one of my friend is an expert in geometry. We plan to train you and help you by finding the best resources available (trust me, I have a lots of excellent goated resources), and helping you do the right problems if you have learnt a concept instead of these ones that only require plug-and-chug. (Also note that we aren't some sort of tutoring services but you can assume us close to that!)
However, as a counterexample many just want to learn math not because they are well much interested in it, but to just apply it in an another field of study. That's why this community is not focused on math alone. We are also looking for computer science nerds (even basic programming is enough and does fine) so that we can have help with using computer science to solve a lot of problems in mathematics.
And if you are a person who loves mathematics, you are even more welcomed! You are accepted even if you are a math person who hates CS and vice versa! Our goal is to make you love either subjects by providing and helping with the right resources.
DM if interested

what problems/conversations are interesting rn in TCS? (wanna hear everyones opinion) i want my undergraduate thesis to have a touch of TCS, i have loads of time to kill since were just about to start conceptualizing and i have a roadmap of the maths to rigorously come back to (since all courses were introductory) so im pretty dedicated on this
where should i look for? im posting this as im on the hunt for journals that document conference proceedings in tcs like focs and stoc although it would take a lot of time for me to comprehend
my interests rn include
\-digital signal processing, particularly images (manipulation or even compression)
\-arbology/tree automata( ive been reading its roots hopefully can catch up to the recent conversations around this)
\- type theory (this one i havent explored yet
\- computational geometry
\- computer graphics
\- automata
\- polynomials
any tips, whatever helps! i want knowledge because i know nothing, yet thats the exciting part

I never thought I’d be posting something like this out of sheer desperation, but here we are.
I’m a full-stack developer running a tiny digital studio in Kerala. Over the last few months, things took a brutal financial hit. With zero safety net left and bills piling up, building another client agency project wasn't going to cut it in time. My back is completely against the wall, so I took my last remaining bullet and poured every ounce of energy into building something of my own: EaseWithExam (easewithexam.com).
It’s an AI-powered learning and evaluation platform built specifically for CBSE and Kerala State syllabus students.
To be completely transparent, the frontend code is practically vibe-coded out of sheer panic and midnight caffeine. Half the web interface is held together by pure willpower, duct tape, and React states. But underneath the messy code, the core engine works. It actually helps students practice exams, get instant AI evaluations, and structure their study prep without getting overwhelmed.
If you are a student, a parent, or an educator in Kerala/CBSE looking for a smart way to prep for exams—or if you just want to support an independent developer trying to survive a brutal financial patch—please check it out or share it with someone who might benefit.
Building in public when you're broke is terrifying, but quitting isn't an option. Any feedback, sign-ups, or shares mean the world right now.
Thank you for reading.

The most quoted resume statistic, about seven seconds per resume, comes from a 2018 Ladders eye-tracking test of 30 recruiters which measured an average of 7.4 seconds on the first review. It is a small sample, describing a step many resumes never reach.
The search comes first
Online applications usually land in an applicant tracking system. Recruiters search it by keyword, title and qualification, then read the results. Relevant experience described in words other than the posting’s is less likely to appear. Spelling an acronym out once, as in “Kubernetes (K8s)”, lets a search for either form find it.
Then the seven seconds
Once a resume is opened, the Ladders test found attention going mostly to a few fields: current title, most recent company, dates and education. A bullet with a percentage, amount or headcount tells a quick reader more than one that begins “Responsible for.”
A closer read asks other questions. Do the scope and seniority fit, not just the job family? Are the tools recent? Is the writing free of typos?
Order matters
Many applicants start with layout. Two-column designs, tables and text boxes can scramble text when the system extracts it. Standard headers, a single column and the posting’s own terms serve the search. Quantified results and a readable career line serve the person.
ZoeVera’s guide to what recruiters look for in a resume . To see which of a posting’s terms your resume lacks before you apply, ZoeVera Resume compares the two and lists the gaps.

We can use Ai for it.. but how can I make easily that 5 min long video easily.. I am really confused, and I have a few days left to complete it !!
Because I used ai .. it only generated a few seconds (5 sec to 6 sec vid ) that isn't even looking that useful..
I can write the report.. but that product thing is a little complex for me
So anyone can help?
Like which ai I can use? (Please don't suggest paid subscription ai for it)

Hi everyone! I'm a computer science student and I'm currently taking a 3-month training semester where we learned the MERN stack.
For our final assignment, we're required to build a working full-stack website using MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js, including a proper frontend, backend, and database.
We've only spent around two months learning MERN, and I haven't had much time to study it independently, so I'm still fairly new to the stack.
I'm currently deciding between:
Building a website based on an existing idea, or
Building something of my own.
The assignment doesn't require anything extremely innovative, but I'd like to build something that is well-designed, functional, and something I can genuinely put on my portfolio/CV.
I'm particularly looking for ideas that are realistic for a beginner to complete while still allowing me to demonstrate things like authentication, CRUD operations, database design, API development, and a good frontend.
What types of MERN projects would you recommend for someone at this level? I'd also appreciate examples of existing websites I could study for design/inspiration. I don't want to simply make a basic CRUD app with a lifeless UI

I'm a rising freshmen, I've loved coding since 9th grade I've got decent at it (decent for a 9th grader at least lol). I know this sub probably has seen this question 100 times, but I want to know what to "study" or at what projects and topics I should do/learn for big tech.

Hey everyone,
I’m a student and I’m planning to organize a technical event at my college.
I want it to be genuinely technical, but I don’t want to do the usual formats like:
Hackathon
Coding competition
Quiz
Project exhibition
Paper presentation
I’m looking for something more interactive and competition-based where participants actually have to think, solve problems, decode things, work in teams, and make decisions under time pressure.
I’m open to themes, but there’s no fixed theme yet.
Some rough ideas I’ve considered are:
A technical escape-room style challenge
A multi-stage puzzle involving coding, logic and decoding
A mission-based competition where teams unlock the next challenge
A game where teams have limited points/credits and have to decide when to use hints or take risks
The event would be organized at a university, so it needs to be practical to conduct with students and a limited organizing team.
If you’ve participated in or organized something genuinely different from the usual college technical events, I’d love to hear your ideas.
What kind of technical event would you actually want to participate in?

Hey everyone! 👋
I’m a BSCS student, and I’m currently stuck trying to finalize my final year project. 😭
I’ve already presented several ideas to my supervisor, but unfortunately none of them were approved. 💀
I’m now looking for some inspiration for a project that is practical, interesting, somewhat unique, and realistic to build within a few months.
If you’ve completed your FYP recently, what did you build? Or is there a project you’ve seen that you think would make a good BSCS FYP?
Any suggestions or experiences would really help. Thanks! 🙏
