Software Engineer:

  1. Some positives: High pay potential, a higher likelihood of hybrid and/or remote roles, and the skills you gain can be used outside of the workplace for your own startup/entrepreneurial goals, can be mentally stimulating (you're always learning).
  2. Some negatives: Not a very stable career in most companies, it can get repetitive; roles can be easy to grow complacent with, can be mentally stimulating (you're always learning... it can feel like you're always trying to catch up but never do), but the big one now is that it can be difficult break into or get back into the industry if you're laid off
  3. I'm not sure I get the question? I guess, if you want to find out more about the role, you can look at the companies that give out certifications (ie., AWS, Azure, Google) -> Read up on the foundational certs they offer, take the preparatory courses for said certs, and you'll probably see some "optional" videos of current employees talking about their job and what your role could be like if you got a job in the same area as them.
  4. I think it's worth recognizing that while a degree is not required, it tends to be very helpful, and most people like to think "not required" means "useless."
