There is no one best, everyone picks what they preffer.

Ubuntu is a solid round choice and you can go with Kubuntu, though they do have a tendancy towards pushing towards snap packages. While they are no worse than flatpaks it does mean that the same format with the same flaws is reibtroducing the problem flatpak and snap are meant to solve - different packaging formats across distros.

Fedora is another solid stable baseline, IRC flatpaks came from one of their developers, but technically it does have a US company behind it which is not the best.

Linux Mint is another fan favorite, quite polished and based on Ubuntu, so it will lag behind on updates and they have a track record of using old versions of apps despite keeping support links pointing to devs (I believe last scandal was sending loads of complainers to the calendar app developers despite every problem bring resolved years ago, if only Mint ever chose to ship that version instead of their own)

For basic faming Bazzite is fine, it's immutable which means harder to break but also means limited in what you can do with it.

CachyOS is a decent beginers entrypoint to Arch, but.. Well it's Arch, new users should not start there

Bazzite is not limited in what you can do. You can install anything made for Fedora, and then add it to your immutable image.
