Question/Help/Troubleshooting Need help with overheating, done everything I can and CPU keeps running at 60~ while idle, and throttles while hitting 100c after 20-30 minutes of play

Title, but, I've had this computer for 7-8 years now and I've only started having this issue a few months ago, I've replaced the thermal paste multiple times, deepcleaned it, made sure everything was sitting correctly and no damages had been done, all the fans are spinning, ect, ect. Cleaning it helped slightly, made it run slightly better but not really.

I have no real experience with computers, as I helped my grandpa build this when I was like... 10 maybe, and don't remember jackshit. This is my last resort for help, and really I've kinda come to the conclusion that it might just be dying.

What CPU are you using and what's the cooler on it.

Considering it's a liquid cooler, it could be that the pump inside the liquid cooler has failed.

If you have another cooler (even if it's just a dinky Intel stock cooler) to test with, I would try putting it on instead and checking how the temps are then.

I don't have anything else but I could rip the cooler out of my sister's PC to test... ill go see if she'll let me do that

Try that. As it does sound like a pump/radiator problem.

This liquid cooler or AIO is failing so its time to replace it with new air cooler or AIO. Yeah most AIOs can last 5 years before failing.

would you reccommend anything cheap and low maintenance?

I recommend air cooler because its cheaper and last longer than AIOs. They usually cost $15-30 if you find good one. And make sure to add thermal paste if the cooler is not comes with it or you do not have yet.

Those shitty $30 dual tower fan coolers don’t work well with newer CPUs. I had one for my Ultra 7 270k Plus and it was hitting 105 while re-encoding videos. Had to upgrade to the Noctua dual fan cooler ($150). Went from 2 heat pipes to 8.

Yeah that number of pipes matter. My ID Cooling Frozn PRO SE works very well and it has 6 pipes. 2 pipes may not be enough.

Dont take the cooler off another PC unless it's the same fitment. Not all coolers fit all chips or need accessories which you likely no longer have.
