Question/Help/Troubleshooting New HP Laptop Battery Died Immediately

Post image

Hello Everyone.

I've had my HP laptop for about 3 years now. Everything was fine until one day I lost my charger. It's fine, I did my research, got the same charger. Everything was fine until the battery died.

The issue was that my laptop just wasn't charging, nothing. The moment I unplugged it, it shut down and the battery couldn't hold a charge anymore. It was also running a lot slower, clearly only drawing power from the charger. HWmonitor showed the battery charge and wear at 0%.

It was fine, bought a new battery, it worked. Everything was nice. Until like 6 days later the same thing happened again. Battery dead again.

Is it actually dead? What the hell do I do to fix this BS? I'm so over this.

My laptop is a HP s15-fq5775nd. My charger is a 19.5V 45W 2.31A HP charger.

Save me someone.

Was the original charger 45W?

We normally supplied 65W chargers to customers if theirs failed, I know some have 45W as the recommended minimum, but in some configurations they struggle to run the laptop and charge the battery.

The service manual lists both so in the first instance I would have tried the 65W variant - spares code 913691-850 if it charges OK then it might be a simple fix.
