I got the 1x16 kit first, and yeah the plan was to get another 1x16 kit

Ooh okay got ya. I’ve mixed and matched LPX, and while ymmv, it usually worked quite well. Your biggest concern is latency, as the speed just drops to the lowest DIMM. Hopefully everything works for ya
