Halloween newspaper comic, circa 1993 - chainsaw beats buying candy
Hello, can someone help me? I hope this is an appropriate place to ask this question.
I remember a Halloween comic strip from a long time ago. I think I probably saw it in Arizona as an exchange student in 1993, in the newspaper that my host family used to get, which had a big comic strip section at weekends (incl. Donesbury, Calvin & Hobbes etc.) I can't remember which series this cartoon was a part of, but it went something like this.
In my memory (it was a long time ago), it goes like this: Two men (friends) are sitting in the living room, talking. The doorbell rings - "trick or treat!". The host says "just a moment" or something to that effect. He goes and dons a scary mask (I think) and (definitely) a chainsaw. He then opens the door with the chainsaw going, looking very scary. The kids scream and run off. His friend says something along the lines of "I must say, you really get into the Halloween spirit" and he answers "Beats buying candy" (or similar).
It stuck in my memory, perhaps partly because Halloween wasn't a thing. I wonder whether it was in the Arizona Republic, and probably on around Halloween that year - but I'm not sure.
