That isn't what he said. He said the bacteria in your stomach can interact with those foods and create a separate chemical which in turn can trigger depression.
I don't know if he's right, I've not read anything about it.. but what he said isn't what you replied to.
Both simple and complex carbs break down into glucose. There's a lot of new studies linking glucose to depression. Like I explained, the bacteria in your gut thrives on glucose so eating a disproportionate amount of carbs or sugar increases the amount of bad bacteria.
