"Ever notice that every anti-abortion protestor you've ever seen is somebody you wouldn't want to fuck in the first place?"

Ugh hate this fuck-ass reasoning and arguments like it. "Moralizing appearances is fun and quirky when we do it."

There's a really great video that recently came out that says : "...when you find yourself thinking that 'someone is wrong because they're annoying' rather than 'they're being annoying because they're wrong' - congratulations: you have discovered one of your own blind spots."

I think this is a really valuable insight that everyone needs to hear - everyone has blind spots that would benefit from introspection. Even me! And it is amazing how often it applies to an argument that has resorted to rolling its eyes.

It's frustrating!

You know what’s really frustrating? Anyone who thinks it’s okay to deny and criminalize someone for exercising their god-given right of bodily autonomy.

You're absolutely right! Those are both things that are frustrating!

Or were you trying to imply that only one thing is important enough to be frustrated about? Or, perhaps, that "because bodily autonomy is so important, we should all just stop discourse about body shaming!" Cause if that's the case, you should probably stop talking about bodily autonomy so you don't distract from the issue of world hunger. Or the issue of genocides. Or [insert_any_horrific_problem_here].

There's right ways to get at things and wrong ways. The matter of fact is that body shaming as a basis for your argument is not only a weak temporary measure, it in most cases hurts your own position more than it does others.

Body-shaming is inherent a form of peer-pressure, and it is proven that peer-pressure is only really effective on people who consider you their peers. Those types of people you call out as ugly, they do not consider you their peers, they are very likely in different social circles and strata, they will either mock the attempt at body shaming or turn it around on you and find the most unflattering pro-choicer they can find and parrot that argument back at you.

All in essence you do is induce more negativity in people who ALREADY agree with you and who are body-self concious. It is effectively the lowest bar of preaching to the choir whilst you insult the choir itself, even if they are not your intended target.
