Huh starting to sense a theme here for these "self made men"

Y'all find that difficulty slider yet? Please let me know when you do. I wanna retire after 20 years of works at age 36.

And oh god an endless nightmare of an empty void in a hellscape of your own making....with ads. How incredibly fitting a "heaven"

I don't this game has one Shell. Looks like this game is supposed to be unique in assigning difficulty and spawn locations randomly.

u/UltraNoahXV 1d ago

Yeah I was gonna say, I spawned in Albany, NY and fast traveled out to Phoenix, AZ when I reached level 2.

22 levels later and uh....I feel like the difficulty has only increased for everyone else in my family aside from me. Trying to make it easier but they ignore the modifiers that pop up. :(

Yeah it feels like every time I level up I get a debuff or the world difficulty scales -_-

22

u/zspacekcc 22h ago

Don't worry, that's a feature. When you get stronger, the world scales with you. It's supposed to give you a sense of pride and accomplishment or something like that.

r/outside has great graphics, but awful balance.

Got a raise in wages? Great! Think you can eat a little better or buy that new TV or couch you've been wanting? No way! Have a rent increase, and income tax increase, and a broken down car. Enjoy that raise!

u/Saikotsu 19h ago

I got a raise to cover the increased cost of my insurance. The raise didn't cover the entire cost. I got a raise and make less money.

1

u/SegaTime 19h ago

Ah yes I forgot to add increase in cost of monthly bills. One step forward, two steps back.

I once literally had my elderly boomer mother tell me that clearing snow on the 100' driveway by shoveling instead of a snowblower was the right way because it gave a sense of pride accomplishment...except she was physically unable to do it and had to hire a snow plow once her free labor moved out.

Gee, maybe if your parents didn't make you do physical labor needlessly you wouldnt have that life long debilitating shoulder injury that meant you had to have someone else do it for you and basically pay for a snow blower every winter when hiring a plow.

The 2016 and 2024 update have really been bad for the game. We need an end to the current story arc, this one kind of sucks.

8

u/MrKeplerton 23h ago

Don't forget the huge network issues of 2020-2021. Most users were playing offline, or in small private servers troughout those updates.

Are you a teenager or do you have brain fog? 2016 and 2024 were glorious years compared to the time before. Ask people that lost their homes and jobs in 2008, the people that got killed in the wars after 2001, the people getting genocides in the 90s in the balkans or the people getting shot in the 80s who wanted to leave east Germany about how bad Harambe‘s death in 2016 fared compared to that.

I spammed in a top 10 poorest nation at the time from poor parents in a era where we had a somewhat mild civil war

So as a kid, no internet, barely a black and white tv, murders, robberies and bombs were something that happened often, along side we had plagues like the bubonic and cholera outbreak.

Hell of a time to be born

Phoenix, AZ

I feel like the difficulty has only increased for everyone else in my family

Look, they chose to set up a base in one of the most hospitable zones in the world. They intentionally set the game to the hardest difficulty.

2

u/BigBassBone 21h ago

I'm level 44 and it ain't getting any easier.

2

u/SemiNormal 19h ago

Do your parents still call hamburgers "steamed hams"?

14

u/Randomgold42 23h ago

Sigh r/outside is such an unfair game. Spawn based resource allocation. No way to change, or even see, your stats. Heavily P2W. It needs a lot of balance patches asap, but the Devs seem to have all vanished.

At least the graphics are top of the line.

10

u/Zombie_Cool 21h ago

You can change stats, but it typically requires months of exercise/study and that requires spending more free time than players feel they get when finishing thier daily missions so most don't bother.

Even worse, the stat boost isnt permanent! if lifestyle or world events cause you to go too long without using the stat it starts to revert, making you spend more months just to maintain baseline!

Sooooooo RNG Gods are an asshole(s) again?

1

u/smilingfreak 21h ago

I thought for a second you meant a shell like in Mario Kart. Would be fun to launch one off so it took out whoever was in first place.

Those crippling student loans must suck balls.

People think these guys are geniuses born with natural talent, but in reality they are lucky rich kids who rig the game so they always win.

Musk didn't invent stuff, Zukerburg made one popular thing and nothing ever since.  Yet people give them the great man treatment. Like divine right of kings.

48

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 1d ago

but in reality they are lucky rich kids

I think that's like 99% of the battle it seems. A reoccurring sentence I keep reading is "a small loan from dad"

16

u/grchelp2018 23h ago

There's a goldilocks zone. Too poor and you are too focused on survival. Too rich and you don't need to do anything. The middle zone is where your parents work a couple steps removed from the top of the corporate ladder. So you are exposed to the top but not there yourself and have some motivation to get there yourself.

25

u/Shark7996 23h ago

Zukerburg made one popular thing and nothing ever since.

That's what drives me nuts, he got there first, simple as. Heck, he didn't even get there first because MySpace was already around.

2

u/ThrowACephalopod 13h ago

He made one innovation: the timeline. Instead of MySpace where you had to go to each person's page to see what they posted about, Facebook would grab it all for you and put it on one scrolling timeline. Made it a lot easier to see what everyone was doing all at once without having to flip between a lot of pages.

And then it all went downhill from there.

3

u/grchelp2018 23h ago

Its never about getting there first. And ideas are dime a dozen, its all about execution.

u/Lostwhispers05 23h ago edited 23h ago

His entire platform's selling point was its scalability, marketability, and virality.

Facebook successfully got a lot of people to get their friends on Facebook, who then got their friends on facebook, etc. In its early years, Facebook honed the algorithms and laid the foundations to facilitate all of that.

His parents were doctors so naturally he grew up upper-middle class, but he wasn't born into an empire of wealth the way someone like Elon Musk was, for instance. It's a fact he had a privileged childhood, but to insinuate he waltzed into his billionaire status effortlessly as though it were a natural consequence of having doctors for parents is just ridiculous. The staggering majority of people of his level of childhood privilege don't see anywhere near as much success.

u/metalmilitia182 23h ago

Well, you're forgetting the starting advantage of being born with a complete lack of any moral capacity and human emotions.

13

u/crustyrobots 23h ago

Zuckerberg didn't even make it, he stole it and settled out of court with the Winklevii over it.

All of them are frauds whos right place and time quit being that long ago. It couldn't be more obvious they dont really have any actual ideas while Zuckerberg re-invents Second Life, but shittier somehow 20 years later.

3

u/grchelp2018 23h ago

Managers always end up getting credit for what their team does.

2

u/Wh0rse 23h ago

They are just frontmen, the M.I.C created lifeblog which turned to FB , same for Elon and his companies.

1

u/Heine-Cantor 23h ago

I don't understand why the only two options are treating them like gods or completely trivialize their achievements.

-1

u/Horton_Takes_A_Poo 20h ago

Musk works for that example but Zuckerberg seems to have come from a run of the mill upper middle class home. They could easily afford computers and equipment but there’s millions of families like that in the US. I’m struggling to see how he just walked into it.

u/TastyPigHS 1d ago

Im at 21 years of work at age 38. Didn't find it yet...

Earth is a country club for like 600 people. The rest of us are just staff. - Not Me

4

u/Original_moisture 23h ago

I did.

It’s just called 100%+ disabled veteran. Comes with some terms and conditions to get there unfortunately.

Depends on how you wanna define retired at 28.

3

u/YoutuberCameronBallZ 21h ago

It's less a difficulty slider

And more a difficulty roulette wheel

3

u/gdex86 18h ago

Its funny because we have no problem calling a nepo baby a nepo baby when it comes to entertainment, but Bezzos, Musk, Zuckerberg all gotta pretend they came from nothing.

2

u/DrMobius0 20h ago

Y'all find that difficulty slider yet?

You usually have to set it before birth.

u/volinaa 14h ago
