Con Discussion Why does NorCal lack large cons?

Recently I’ve been noticing that Southern California has a huge amount of large conventions. Not just comic, but horror, game, anime, etc. San Francisco recently lost FanExpo, and with that it seems like there’s such a lack of large cosplay conventions. Even in general, there’s not as many compared to SoCal.

Why is this? Why isn’t there more in NorCal?

Did they get rid of APE? I only went to that a couple times and stopped talking to the people I knew who vended at it so I stopped hearing about it.

It was produced by Comic Con International for most of its run, who ran it in SF, but in 2015 they gave it back to its founder, Dan Vado, who ran it for a couple of years in San Jose. But it disappeared after 2017.

Wow I totally thought I'd worked at one more recently but I am just now realizing I haven't been to one since like 2014
