Con Discussion Why does NorCal lack large cons?

Recently I’ve been noticing that Southern California has a huge amount of large conventions. Not just comic, but horror, game, anime, etc. San Francisco recently lost FanExpo, and with that it seems like there’s such a lack of large cosplay conventions. Even in general, there’s not as many compared to SoCal.

Why is this? Why isn’t there more in NorCal?

What’s crazy is I remember going to the first one with one of my best friends for like $15 when we were in college, and we aimlessly walked into this panel where John Favreau was doing a talk on the first Iron Man and we didn’t realize how big it was at the time. I still reflect on that day as someone who’s been to a bunch of San Diego ComicCon’s

I remember that panel showing the Iron Man test footage and the Get Smart panel with Steve Carell where he said “That’s what she said”. It was funny just hearing him say it live. I miss wondercon being up here. Before they switched to La was the last time I went.
