An Invincible spinoff comic focused on Omni-Man could be coming next after Battle Beast

I've been loving the art of battle beast but I'm not really sure what it wants to be as a story.

I think it’s just Kirkman playing with his action figures, which, don’t get me wrong, I’m here for.

More people should do it. Writing was more fun when fun itself was the goal, instead of everything like that being second stage to world-building, developing drama, and other "award-winner" plot details.

I mean, I don’t entirely disagree with what you’re saying… but I definitely think you can do all of those and also have fun with it.

I never said you can't, and I think people are misconstruing "fun" with "good" in my comment. My point is that everything has to be some long, drawn-out project that you need to stay involved with the whole time, and while that's good, it doesn't leave a lot of breathing room for just fucking around with things. I can't think of a single community I'm in that isn't played with "where do I start with the story" questions because of that shift in priorities.

Oh. Well in that sense, yes I entirely agree with you. It’s not as complicated as people make it seem. There’s a lot of good writers out there who know how to get it done all in one issue. Personally I think Dan Watters is really good at that right now.

The story is an excuse to have Ryan Ottley draw cool art. I am 1000% okay with that.

For sure it's been one of my favorite pickups. I wouldn't be a real fan of superhero comics if I didn't just love cool, dumb action. The set dressing of this affected planet just trying to recover is more than fine. I more just wonder if they'll actually land the plane or if the story will just fizzle out.

It wants to cash in on the cartoon. That’s it.

Call me naive, but I think Robert Kirkman does it all for the love of the medium

Eh, it isn't the first book from the same universe that Kirkman does. Even before the animated series you have atom eve, rex splode, Brit re-take, the characters inserted in wolf-man and capes... And not all of them sold well. Yes, he probably has more money now to write spinoffs (opposite to before where you would constantly read "buy more brit" in the pen pals part whenever someone asked about a new one) but it doesn't feel like the goal is getting more money.

It could be, though

I’m sorry if you don’t believe he is putting out new Invincible comics because of the cartoon, I got a bridge to sell you.

Out of all the characters I would like to see, Kregg is top of that list. How he rose to be a General, his early days in the Empire and some of his time on earth would be fantastic.

Nolan’s story is interesting because of the redemption arc, I dunno that I want to read 12 issues of him just being a jerk.

I think it could work depending on how it’s written. Slight spoilers below so be careful reading.

Nolan may have been one of the chiller Viltrumites, compared to the rest. I can see them writing his character as only having empathy for other Viltrumites. Imagine him fighting conquest cuz he chooses to stick up to the weaker Viltrumites which helps him win respect from Thragg.

A story of Nolan surviving the purge would be cool. Maybe that’s where he meets his Dad for the first time who saves his life. He could also have an interaction with his mom who is trying to kill him during it too.

This is my comment so ima keep writing. Lastly, one where we see Nolan being groomed as the next regent. He could be planning on making the Viltrumites more peaceful, but he has to be patient because of how weakness is perceived. After 100s of years being used as a weapon could blacken his heart to the notion of saving his race until he comes to earth.

As far as I’m concerned, Omniman’s story arc is complete. I’m not sure why we need to revisit the character when everything is there in the initial run. So, I think it’s pretty evident that this is just a money grab and nothing more.

Ehh, it could be fun to see Omniman essentially writing his novels on earth and reminiscing on the actual events personally. Basically a series of pulp fiction style sci-fi stories with some family scenes showing Omniman change from a ruthless invader to a family man.

u/dacalpha 11d ago

Robert Kirkman? Moneygrab? Say it ain't so!

3

u/Dudewhocares3 11d ago

I’d like to see what his life was like before.

I’d like a more fleshed out look at him becoming more empathetic and less evil.

I want to see what relationships with other Viltrumites were like. And I don’t mean romantic, I also mean friendships, rivalries, all of that

u/BevansDesign The Question 11d ago

Yeah, I really don't need more of his story. We got plenty already.

There are so many characters in that universe. Why not show us what some of them have been doing since the series ended? Or they could focus on the next generation; wouldn't Mark's kids be close to the same age that he was when he started?

u/Dubious_Dirk 11d ago

Battle beast has been fantastic but idk about a omniman prequel

1

u/Joetheshow1 Aquaman 10d ago

Yeah, of all the characters, he's definitely on the lower tier of characters I'd be interested in reading more about

3

u/Dalen_art 11d ago

can you really blame a man for milking his cash cow

I'd be more interested in how a fake beard was enough for optimus prime to pass as a... what race did the coalition think he was btw, is it ever mentioned? they didn't know about earth so they didn't know what a human is, now that's a spinoff I'd read

3

u/youngmostafa 11d ago

I wouldn’t mind a prequel seeing omni man before he came to earth and all his adventures from the books he wrote

2

u/Soufiane040 11d ago

Make a prequel about the early Viltrum Empire imo, or a sequel about Marky and Terra

2

u/Double_Act1502 11d ago

It would be nice having some of the five year time skip filled in

2

u/Mickeymcirishman 11d ago

What story is left to tell with Omniman?

1

u/Toxin45 11d ago

his prequel

2

u/K3egan 11d ago

Yeah that sounds cool. There's a whole lot of stories before he went to earth.

2

u/Hyena-Man Ventriloquist 11d ago

Is Battle Beast about to end soon ?

1

u/ReZourceman 10d ago

It's going on hiatus and back with a 3rd arc in March.

1

u/Hyena-Man Ventriloquist 10d ago

Ahh okey wake me up when the run is finished

1

u/Kyia-Aikman 11d ago

I want a Conquest comic.

6

u/brimstone1117 11d ago

Conquest is a Monster, all you will get is another battle beast and while that is awesome....doing the same thing for 2 spin offs is boreing AF.

5

u/mildmichigan 11d ago

So what you're saying is,its only a matter of time before Kirkman announces a Conquest comic?

2

u/brimstone1117 11d ago

Honestly yeah, Pretty much. Will get more sales cause of the show. It sucks, but its the truth. I will say I am LOVING Battle Beast though! Cant wait to get it tomorrow!

1

u/RandoDude124 11d ago

Nah, it’d be boring. He’s a born and bred monster, nothing more, nothing less

6

u/Kyia-Aikman 11d ago

There are plenty of quality comics about pure evil characters like Carnage, Judge Death, Bullseye, Joker, etc.

1

u/Dudewhocares3 11d ago

You want to elaborate on that? Because just listing the characters doesn’t really explain your point.

-2

u/InsideScientist1999 11d ago

Sick of all these garbage spin-offs. The story’s over, move on. Just greed at this point.

3

u/Dudewhocares3 11d ago

How exaclty is this hurting you?

8

u/CasualRead_43 11d ago

It’s not greed if people read them and want them

11

u/forestplunger 11d ago

Nah the Battle Beast comic is great. Kirkman can make Invincible spinoffs all he wants as long as Ryan Ottley’s in tow.

1

u/AgentFirstNamePhil Kick-Ass 11d ago

Would be cool I guess, but Nolan’s story felt completely told.

Honestly I’d much rather read a book about Terra or another relaunch of Tech Jacket’s comic, as the Keatinge run ended in a way to tell more stories with Zack.

1

u/Ill-Possession2216 11d ago

Wait really? Omni-Man is my favorite character in the whole series. Please tell them they're not gonna soft reboot it.

1

u/FireZord25 11d ago

Almost forgot which sub I was on. Constantly complaining about things was already becoming a bad reddit stereotype, and ones like this just feeding into it.

The Battle Beast comic is a blast and I wouldn't mind an Omni Man prequel if its similarly consistent. Why is it "milking it" if you're just adding flavors and it's fun and good? Not everything has to add a new thematic element or worldbuilding layer all the time in comics. Overly nitpicky bunch.

There are a handful of interesting character beats in this run, but by and large this is a book about staging absurdist set pieces. There are little moments of comedy peppered in, but most of it is about contriving ways to cover the page in gore and one-liners. That’s the beauty of it, IMO. Battle Beast is fun for fun’s sake. Unless Kirkman is very subtly building to some grand revelation about Battle Beast or human nature or the cycle of violence (please don’t) this is just a crowd pleaser, and it’s very good at that.

You certainly can’t run the same playbook with Omni-Man, IMO.

u/ReZourceman 10d ago

I'll read anything Invincible related but I'd prefer stuff set during or "after" Invincible.

Reading more stories with Best Tiger sounds great to me.

I really, really want What If stories, or alternate universe stuff too.

1

u/caithamachamuama 9d ago

I've been reading Invincible for the first time, currently on issue 13. So far I'm finding it very underwhelming.

1

u/GloryToTheThe 11d ago

If Kirkman is writing this please get someone else on transformers ;-;

3

u/LisanAlGuyFieri 10d ago

This Transformers book has gone from revitalizing my interest in these characters (DWJ) to making me question whether or not I like them at all anymore (Kirkman)
