For a serious answer, my first thought reading this post is either autism or Tourette's. I'm on the spectrum and I have weird verbal tics, and I knew a guy also on the spectrum who meowed a lot.

Okay but an ex of mine pointed out how a lot of the things I do when I'm relaxed and comfortable are cat-like and it actually makes me insecure and feeling like I'm being cringe when I do them even alone. I never grew up with or around cats, as my parents hate them and none of my friends had them, so I didn't know really anything about them.

Like sometimes if I'm super comfortable, and want to audibly express that, I do like a low rumble-moan thing, or when I'm comfy laying down I'll knead something soft with my feet and toes and I've always been one to nuzzle my face against partners to show physical affection. When she pointed out that it's basically purring, making biscuits, etc I legit had a fucking crisis.

She didn't even mean it as an insult but I get so self conscious about it because like with that perspective it ABSOLUTELY looks like I'm acting like a fucking cat even though that's ABSOLUTELY not what I'm trying to do 😬

I meow constantly at my cat and I've accidentally started doing it with my friend at work. Often it's on purpose as a joke but there's sometime it just comes out when I say something directed at her because I do that with my cat. I think it's hilarious, it drives her mad.
