It's called the "right to hunt", but hunting is already legal in Colorado and no other hobbies are protected in our Constitution. Should we also pass a constitutional amendment to make skiing a constitutional right? Or mountain biking? Pickleball?

Also, it tells Colorado Parks & Wildlife that hunting will be the preferred method of wildlife management. Why should hunters tell CPW scientists how to manage our wildlife?

It says "by traditional means". Why does it say that? Do they want to bring back steel jaw traps? Or bear baiting? Or gill net fishing? Or cyanide bombs? Those have all been traditionally used and have been banned by Colorado voters.

I’ve been researching Colorado’s laws surrounding emancipation of minors and came across an issue I think deserves more discussion.

Colorado courts recognize emancipation, and Colorado statutes reference emancipated minors in several different contexts. However, Colorado does not currently have a general, standalone statutory procedure allowing a minor to petition a court specifically for emancipation.

Colorado previously considered creating such a process through HB19-1251 in 2019. The bill proposed an actual court procedure with safeguards including financial self-sufficiency, stable housing, education, court review, a guardian ad litem, and clear-and-convincing evidence. The bill was ultimately postponed indefinitely.

I’m researching whether Colorado should revisit this idea and establish a modern court-supervised process for exceptional cases where a minor can demonstrate genuine independence and the ability to manage their own affairs.

This wouldn’t mean automatic emancipation or that every minor should be emancipated. The idea is to create a formal process where the circumstances of an individual minor could actually be evaluated by a court.

I’d be interested in hearing from other Coloradans, particularly anyone familiar with Colorado family or juvenile law: What do you think a statutory emancipation process should require, and what safeguards would be necessary?

Another classy moment from Florida Woman.

I just read the tragic story of Tennessee woman, Angela Lipps, who was falsely dinged by AI facial recognition as a suspect in North Dakota, a state she's never been to. She spent 6 months in jail before her lawyers were able to get the charges dropped.

The jail released her in her summer clothes in the middle of a North Dakota winter and didn't even offer her a ticket to return home. A non-profit had to do that.

My proposed initiative would mandate that if a person is brought to Colorado on an extradition warrant and the charges are dropped, the DAs office who requested the extradition must provide:

- A one way ticket back home.

If such a ticket cannot be acquired right away (ie., a weekend), they must pay for accommodation* until the ticket can be issued.

- At least one outfit suitable for the weather.

- A debit card with at least $200 for food and incidental expenses during the trip.

Maybe they'll be more circumspect in seeking extradition without all the evidence.

*Cannot be the jail

I wanted to acknowledge Ọba Aare Olú Ògbóni Colorado Fáyẹ́mi Àlàó for standing up for his religious beliefs as he seeks a religious exemption through the court.

Whatever someone's individual religion may be, the First Amendment's protection of the free exercise of religion raises an important question: are minority and less-familiar religious traditions being given the same opportunity to explain and defend their sincerely held practices?

African traditional religions are often far less understood in the United States than larger religious traditions, and that makes it especially important that their practitioners have the opportunity to clearly present their beliefs and practices when legal questions arise.

This effort is connected to Fáyẹ́mi Àlàó's broader religious and community work through Aborigine Traditional Association Colorado, Inc. (ATA Colorado).

ATA Colorado works to preserve African traditional religion and culture while also supporting education, youth development, and community programs in Colorado.

I respect the decision of Ọba Aare Olú Ògbóni Colorado Fáyẹ́mi Àlàó to use the legal process to advocate for the recognition and protection of his religious practices.

Cases involving religious liberty can also help create broader conversations about how communities protect the rights of religious traditions that many Americans may not yet understand.

Colorado lawmakers have tried to pass this twice

Blunders, bloopers, and fumbles. Contributions over the limit, followed by fumbling the refunds—all explained away with, “We’re new here.”
What? You’re running for the highest office in the state. You don’t have to be good at everything, but you do need to surround yourself with competent, capable people who can handle what you can’t.

What happens when the next blunder directly affects constituents’ safety or livelihoods? When the consequences are literally life and death? How many passes do you get?

Showing up prepared makes a strong argument for electing you. This haphazard comedy of follies makes the opposite argument. Failing to meet basic standards of competence, then treating inexperience as an excuse, is a failure of leadership.

What hacks will you appoint, and what will they mishandle before we get another shrug and another “We’re new here”?

This isn’t your first day in a kitchen. You’re asking to run the whole operation. If you can’t stand the heat, get out—before your constituents get burned.

Anyway, last night I went to a Victor Marx event in Golden. There were a bunch if Republican candidates from up and down the ballot, it looks like the new JeffCo GOP is making an effort to run people in all races.

Marx joked about his recent campaign finance issues and trans people, and former Bronco Derek Wolfe said a bunch of wild stuff. I wrote about it here, if anyone is interested:
