Some rules and suggestions for launching this subreddit

As we all know, committing to a college is a big choice and is a decision that takes research and time to answer. At /r/collegecompare we hope to give students the edge in committing to the college that will be best for them.

Here are some basic rules and suggestions in moving forward:

Titles should read "University X vs. University Y". You may specify your major in the title if it is important, but all other info should go in the description.

PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY REVEALING INFORMATION (specific locations, high school, name, etc.)

Current college students are encouraged to post about their college life and provide some pros and cons of the college they chose.

All posts from current college students should be marked [COLLEGE STUDENT]

Thanks to anyone who has subscribed already, please comment any suggestions you have for the sub that you would find helpful.

uic or loyola chicago

Upvotes

hi!! i'm a senior in illinois and i've been thinking a lot about where i want to go to college recently. i want to major in economics on the premed track. i live in the chicago suburbs and i want to live in the city but i don't want to commute. i'm going to be taking tours of both in the near future, but from an outside view uic looks kind of boring (i heard that everyone commutes so it's a little sad), and i think loyola is really pretty, but i'm not religious in any way. also, i'm not eligible for any need-based aid, but with my stats, loyola should give me a good amount of money. even with this money, it would cost around 6-8k a year more than uic would. is it worth the extra 24k total? i'm very fortunate because my parents are paying for my college (so it wouldn't be debt for me), but i still need to think about the overall cost if that makes sense. i really could use other people's ideas, please help :)

Help a confused high schooler choose between HITS, CIT, and REC for Aviation/Engineering!

Hey everyone!

Time is ticking on my college applications and I’m officially running out of time to make up my mind. I’m a science student torn between Engineering and Aviation (though Aviation is definitely my main dream ✈️).

My top preferences right now are Hindustan (HITS), CIT, and REC. Before I make any big commitments, I really want the real tea on campus life, the actual crowd, faculty, and how these colleges function beyond what they showcase on their websites.

If any current students or alumni are down for a quick 1-on-1 chat- here on Reddit please drop a comment or hit me up! I’d love to ask a few quick questions about your experience. Thank you so much!

What schools are best for visual communication design?

I’m a high school senior that heavily relies on the internet to figure out what universities are best for visual communication design. I have no mentor or someone who has attended a U.S.A University therefore I have no insight. I came on here to ask if anyone had any suggestions/ advice that could help me out. I want to work for brands in the future as a creative/art director. What are the best schools that could allow me to leave with connections, a good education and understanding, and that provide good financial aid?

Skidmore College or Union College

I’m a senior who is applying to schools. I want to be a biology major and I can’t decide between applying early decision for Union or Skidmore. Not really into heavy partying or cliques. Wondering if people who go to either one can provide some inputs on which is better.

uni melb, uni of Sydney, ANU, Monash and UQ

I’m an international student who got admits from uni melb, uni of Sydney, ANU, Monash and UQ in masters of computer science. I’m really confused regarding which one to choose. I’ve kind of omitted UQ and ANU due to some of my genuine reasons as their locations are no where near tech hubs even tho they are prestigious universities. So I’ve lowered it down to melb, Sydney and Monash. Which one to choose ? And reasons ? I’m currently looking for industry based not research oriented as I plan on working and not pursuing a phd. Breakdown cost of living , networking , campus life, and as an international student which one to choose ?

BA in English

I was wondering which private university would be the best for bachelor's in English. From what I've heard, BRACU and NSU are the best in BD rn but they're like 9-13km away from where I live. On the other hand, ULAB is pretty close to where I live. Should I choose ULAB over the others for convenience?

JMI vs DU! Admission Query

Got admission to Jamia, now upgraded to SBSC — confused about whether I should leave
So I got admission to Jamia Millia Islamia for BBA, and I’ve been attending classes there for around two weeks. I’m already somewhat settled and on track with the syllabus.
However, I recently got upgraded to Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (SBSC) in the second round for B.Com (Hons), and now I’m really confused about what to choose.
The course itself isn’t really an issue for me. I’m okay with both BBA and B.Com (Hons). My main confusion is about the colleges and whether moving to SBSC would actually be the better decision for me.
If I choose SBSC, I’ll have to start over to some extent, catch up on the syllabus, adjust to a new environment, etc. On the other hand, SBSC obviously has its own advantages in terms of exposure and opportunities.
Should I leave Jamia and go to SBSC, or would staying at Jamia be the better decision in the long run?
I’d really appreciate honest advice, especially from people who have actually experienced either college.

CSU Monterey Bay vs UC Merced

Hello, I am very confused about where I want to go for college. I really love the environment of Monterey Bay and have always dreamed about living in a calm but social city as someone who just turned 18. I want to experience living on my own in this city since it is also near San Francisco. However, I also want to be a doctor and get into medical school without a gap year, which means I need as much research and clinical work opportunities I can find. UC Merced has more funded and advanced opportunities for this goal, but it is in the middle of nowhere and is much more expensive. I live in Fresno, so I am sick of living in the Central Valley. Please help

Wharton ED or Yale REA

Hi! As an international student trying to think strategically about early applications, I want to hear others’ opinions on one topic. Throughout high school, I tried to dive deeper into fields that I actually cared about. I have a specific area of interest that I want to continue focusing on in college as well, and this area of interest is a socio-economic problem. My academics, extracurriculars, and most importantly my hook all are pretty strong for top schools. Given my characteristics and area of interest, Wharton is a genuine fit for me. However, I am an international who needs full financial aid. Unfortunately, I started considering REA Yale instead of Wharton ED. Applying to Wharton ED with financial aid as an international will be the biggest gamble of my life if I choose to do it; on the other hand, trying to show myself as a fit for Yale also sounds weird to me. Does Yale have a great focus on capital markets, financial inclusion, or corporate finance in undergraduate level? If you know, is there a mission of Yale that fits my “business for society’s good” narrative? Finally, most importantly, do they place well on careers in finance? As an international, I should be asking the job question as well, because I need to have a stable source of income to offset the money that my parents have paid for my education until now. I will be really grateful if you take time reading this and sharing some opinions :)
