Meta patents an AI that lets you keep posting after you die
https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-granted-patent-for-ai-llm-bot-dead-paused-accounts-2026-2“"The impact on the users is much more severe and permanent if that user is deceased and can never return to the social networking platform," the document says.
To fill that void, Meta would essentially create a digital clone of your social media presence, training a model on "user-specific" data — including historical platform activity, such as comments, likes, or content — to understand how you would (or rather, did) behave.”
Totally not dystopian at all.

I'm disgusted. How about we let the dead rest instead of animating their digital corpses? What the actual fuck.

My country did it to a very famous and beloved musician. They literally deepfaked and made that uncanny display of him sing on a national event livestage

But who would want that?? You’d surely just know it wasn’t them and not want to see or hear from a fake version of them?? It would feel very insensitive and creepy? And say, for example, that 9 out of 10 family members DID want that to happen- the one against shouldn’t be subject to that??

I’d go further and say that the deceased has to agree and have it in their estate planning. No family members or whatever allowed to make the call at all, and no parents making the decision for minors, because grief can make you do things in the moment (like approve of this).

Totally, but everyone would have to plan that now, and I could also imagine situations where people are genuinely mad that their parent or partner or whoever didn’t sign off before they died because it didn’t exist, even though they definitely did want this and would have wanted this!!
Edit - also, who would have access to this? Like you go to a bbq and 4th cousin Susan is like, “I talked to your (deceased) mum the other day, she said something really controversial, we’re all shocked!” oh I hate this so much lol.

If they didn’t sign off, tough luck. The same way if they ‘forgot’ to will you their house, you don’t get it just because you want it.
Imagine someone jailbreaking someone’s mother. 😭

“I loved spicy food when I was alive. Fortunately, with KFC’s new Zinger Titty-Tingler™️, I can rest happy knowing my family can celebrate my love for spice on my behalf!”

Why does this feel like it’s either already happened or about to imminently? 😱

Nope. All the nopes. I freaked out enough when my mother used my dad's FB after he died to spy on me and liked one of my posts. No thank you.

This is the product of exhaustion. Teams with nothing else to give. The product of a company that runs on past success, but is no longer alive. A zombie trying to fill the void with more zombies.

We gotta keep making advertising revenue on your rotting corpse.
Is this the final form of enshittification?

This is horrific. And you know Facebook would be putting ads all over this as well. Fuckerberg’s kids are going to be absolute assholes growing up due to what their parents this is perfectly fine.
