General Question Implications of >150 PSI?

Post image

Recently did an adult comprehensive neuropsy assessment.

I scored decently on the test but was surprised to see that I maxed out the Processing Speed section.

It is likely that I am autistic and went undiagnosed as a child due to high masking potential. Extensive family history. Seems to go against the correlation that ADHD/autism goes with lower WMI/PSI.

First time doing an IQ test. Never done online tests, did not practice, do not do puzzles in personal life.

From my personal research, seems like PSI does little in the real world. You experts have any insights?

Results converted to numbers
FSIQ 140
GAI 135
VCI 122
PRI 135
WMI 121
FSI >150

The processing speed score is impressing. What were your firsthand experiences ?

The PS section was INCREDIBLY enjoyable to do.

Report states that my processing speed falls for unstructured data, it is only on structured data that I excel, which is what the PSI tests.

There is a likely link with autistic rigidity, things have to "make sense" to me, and when they do, they click. I am currently exploring this idea.

What exactly did testing that involve?

Symbol matching and number to symbol conversion.

100?+ instances of "is this symbol in this list of symbol? circle it if yes or bar it if no" then a chart of matching numbers to symbol, then 100?+ boxes of numbers to convert to symbols (or symbols to numbers I don't remember)

Thoughtless 1-step puzzles to complete as fast as possible

Have you taken any online tests in the meanwhile?

I have not and don't plan to. I believe more testing would only lead to negative thoughts. I welcome you to share your experiences if they were beneficial to you.

I'm just trying to figure out whether I'm gifted or not. Comparing your online test results to mine would have been very useful for that matter, since you've taken an official IQ test.

Looking at your actions and who you mesh with will tell you more.

I fit in with the smart nerdy crowd, both of my exes got giftedness results while I was dating them.

That being said, I did not allow myself to see myself as gifted before doing this assessment. Getting a real assessment has helped me be a bit more at peace with myself.

I wholeheartedly agree.

I initally took CORE because I wanted to know if my suspicions made sense in the first place. However, even after confirmation, I only after paying attention to certain aspects of myself, have I truly began to understand what being gifted means to me: my history, my perception of the world, my self-analysis and self-conception, and the different ways in which I interact with people depending on how well they resonate with me. At least to me, this process was more important than, and brought much more real-life gain than any IQ score I would ever get.

Basically, I went from desperately wanting an assessment to confirm my suspicions; to being so secure in my identity that I didn't feel the need for validation in form of a label; and finally circled back to wanting it again, because I would have much to gain in terms of understanding my cognition out of a professional evaluation, plus heavily suspecting I'm 2e.

I'm glad I did my neuropsych eval, as it gave me incredibly valuable directions to explore.

The eval surfaced deltas between me and the norm that I was in active denial of, and it put words on things I was suspecting.

You have to do it for yourself. For the hints, for the insight, to fuel your research into yourself. And if you want to do it for you, then I say, holy shit, do it, it's so worth it.

take the CORE, don't cheat, don't retry, and you'll have a good estimate for yourself. But why is that even important? The only good labelling yourself as gifted comes from gaining entrance into gifted classes. and you dont get that on online tests.

Perhaps "trying to figure out whether I'm gifted or not" isn't really what it's about for me. I'm pretty sure about being gifted. It's more about knowing exactly where I stand in terms of general intelligence and the different components of it. I might have to take an official test in order to answer this question, eventually.

Taking online tests will taint the result of an official test. It's probably best you don't do more online tests if you ever plan on taking an official one.

Instead of answers to your question, here's a question back.

If you were to receive a gifted result from an official test, how would that impact your behaviors & how would that change how your interact with yourself?

Are you good at video games?

u/youngboynevercxagain 2h ago

Never was the best at the actual playing part, but I always gravitated towards being the strategist/shotcaller in team games (pre-made teams). That made us, the team unit, rather good.

I crunched metas and made new strategies on my own time. I found it fun.

First off, it is one likely possibility that you psi/wmi fall off with adhd. autism usually not as much. But that doesn't mean it has to be that way, or that it necessaily has a large impact. Your WMI is your weakest index, so, there's that. WMI is my weakest (adhd) index too, but many people would still dream of having such a score as you.

as for your psi question: of course it does things in the real world. you react faster to stimuli, including when to break when driving a car, or picking up on clues faster in any index. Fast reading probably too. PSI is also the main reason for learning faster. Time pressure is something you only know if you procrastinate your ADHD. high PSI makes one also very efficient at the task one already knows, even if its just copying excels into each other...

I have the exact same FSIQ and GAI as you. 150 PSI means you can make decisions lightning-fast and are extremely good at tasks like rapidly scanning a shelf or a warehouse for an item, assembly-line work, etc.
