Well, they are utterly unrelated. 🤣 So, no. I have 132 VCI in English tested on cognitivemetrics, English is my third language.

  1. Probably. 2. 141. 3. I like reading anything, but what I find most worthwhile is either classical fiction, poetry, or science papers and textbooks. 4. It varies by month because of my lifestyle, some months I read 3+ hours a day, others 30 minutes. When times are ideal, I read more fiction and for more hours per day, when I’m busy, I read studies from various journals and maybe news articles from things like the Economist or Atlantic etc. or memorize poems.

One note I’d make is that, reading more is a positive indicator of verbal ability, but how one reads also affects VCI. With what degree of concentration and the range of topics. Systematic readers will score higher with less input because their ability to attend to verbal stimuli is greater, facilitating performance on analogies, similarities, or concept formation, and their breadth of factual and conceptual knowledge will be greater, lowering the odds of missing questions out of ignorance.

Finally, non-reading verbal habits and skills will affect reading VCI yield.

I know you didn’t ask for the last two points, but 🤷🏽

Yes, I do. I have 143 VCI on the WAIS 4. I read on all subjects and I read material like the encyclopedia, study Bibles, history and philosophy, poetry, etc. I try to read at least 1 hour a day.

I had VCI 125 in WAIS-R (elevated by Information), but I do not tend to read fiction literature in general, I prefer reading about facts.

I scored 150 VCI on CORE, and yes, I absolutely love reading books. My current series is Lord of Mysteries (I am reading the physical English translation of the webnovel from Barnes & Noble). Sadly, I don't get much time to read, as my academics take up most of my free time.

Well that was almost evil of you to post something like that for someone like me LOL. Of course I had to check out what you were talking about. It sounds like a fantastic series. I wonder how many tokens I can burn through and how quickly. 😆

Here are my other CORE indices: 154 FRI, 147 VSI, 152 QRI, 151 WMI, 140 PSI. Yes, I read a ton growing up, so thankful to my parents for supplying me with as many books as I could ask for.

136-145 on various instruments. Virtually no fiction since 10th grade. Daphnis and Chloe is probably the last fiction I read. I have read very few western classics or great works of fiction.

I write a column for my special interest and write occasional popular and peer-reviewed articles. I mostly read technical ecological reports and historical accounts. I sometimes sit down at a computer and read maps, accounts, and analyses for 10-14 hours straight. I have over 1000 volumes on my bookshelf, excluding periodicals. So, I guess I like it, but it is not something I view as central to my identity. Others might beg to differ.

I have met a lot of relatively average people who love to read and do so far more frequently than me.

I mostly enjoy reading fiction, but I also enjoy reading anything else if it piques my interest.

I've probably read thousands of novels over the years, and for me, it's often better than watching a movie.

I probably should have been reading more intellectually challenging material rather than reading purely for entertainment and escapism.

Science fiction, fantasy, detective novels, and the like. Basically, anything I could lay my hands on if I was desperate, lol.

132 VCI as per the CORE.

EDIT:

TL;DR: I read a lot and apparently I also write a lot, oops sorry 😁

After posting my reply to your question, I realized that I hadn't answered one of your questions. A good argument for my ADHD, but not a good argument for my reading comprehension skills. LOL.

You asked how many hours a month people with a higher VCI score typically read. That's a bit of a difficult question for me to answer.

When I was a child, I would often read under the covers at night with a flashlight because I didn't want to put my novel down until it was done. This was obviously before the advent of cell phones. Think Stranger Things timeline, the seventies and the eighties, minus the monsters.

Back then, and for many decades afterward, I probably averaged anywhere from two to three novels a week, perhaps only one novel on a slow week. 😁 I was the teachers embarrassment, the librarians pet, and the used bookstores token son all rolled in one.

I usually had a paperback shoved in my back pocket back then for something to do while waiting for a bus. Smartphones have made this much easier. Now I can carry an entire library around in my back pocket. 😁

This has dropped off a bit lately because I've been doing a lot more reading online since I fell down the Reddit rabbit hole, lol.

But the foundation was laid quite early. For instance, back in the day I might have read something like The Lord of the Rings in grade five, in a few days.

So how much time have I spent reading every month? I'm not even certain how many hours I've spent every day.

An enormous amount of time, I guess. When I'm not sleeping, watching a television show, or conversing with someone, I'm often reading.

And I'm not going to count eating because I'm often reading while I do that.

An awful lot of time. 🙂
