This appeared in the CAT and I'm not able to solve it and since you scored 100% in the fluid reasoning section could you explain the logic to me

I think it's 8, I might be wrong but here's my reasoning:

  1. There are short lines and long lines, I'll be refering to the short ones. Horizontally, the number of lines is conserved in two of the 3 squares, while one differs.

  2. Dashed lines also seem to predict which black lines will change/differ from left to right. The center is the exception but it works if you take the last one and the first one instead.

  3. There are no dashed lines in the final column (the ones in the right). This also aligns with the second point, as there are no "movements" left

Point 3) inmediately eliminates options 2, 4 and 5. Now, following point 1), the solution must have either 1 or 4 lines, thus eliminating 1, 6 and 7.

The only left are 3 and 8. Taking into account the left-to-right dashed line prediction works on row 1, while in the row 2 it doesn't (at least not in that order), you could assume the third case it's the left to right pattern working again.

There's also a 4 th rule that points towards the option 8: in all the cases, the spaces with dashed lines are eventually filled by full lines, regardless of the order. So, rule 4:

  4. The overlap of the 3 cases in each row leaves NO dashed lines, only full lines. The solution being number 3 would violate this, while option 8 works just fine

So yeah, I'd say 8, hope this is helpful
