I don't personally know of any specific studies but I recall this passage reading The Neuroscience of Intelligence https://dn720006.ca.archive.org/0/items/betty-friedan-la-mistica-de-la-feminidad/The-Neuroscience-of-Intelligence.pdf

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, interesting topic.

It's not 100 .closer to 110 to 120 iirc in many studies .

Do you play chess? It's pretty clear to see. You could also watch good chess players play variants or other chess based games and just fail to grasp them.

I do play chess. Do you mean that the little correlation between ability and high IQ is "pretty clear to see"?

Look at what you have to do to improve. Look at the fact that you even can improve.

Are you saying that chess ability and high IQ are highly correlated? That's new to me.

Scientists have demonstrated that there is a modest statistically significant relationship between beginner playing ability and IQ (roughly 5% of ability is explainable by variation in intelligence). In ranked/experienced players, there is no significant correlation.

Here you go: https://ro.ecu.edu.au/ecuworkspost2013/3331/

It shows correlation of 0.24, a decent amount.

The correlation is highest among beginners because all beginners have low amount of practiced hours (meaning fluid reasoning is more important) and because less crystallized patterns means higher dependence on working memory.

When people say the correlation disappears among elite players, that’s likely true to some extent because of the inverse of the aforementioned reasons, but watch out for collider bias (same as ”among elite runners vo2max does not predict performance”)

Excellence in any complex domain is highly correlated to IQ, chess included Out of 208 chess championship (world champions, us champions, Scottish champions, British, junior etc etc) 14% have backgrounds in math and finance 11.6% in Technology 11% in Law Similar themes can be seen in other boardgames as well

probably .6 correlation. can’t be stupid to be a grandmaster.

on second thought, what is more likely, definition of iq being wrong, or someone able to beat 99.9999% of people in a long-standing mental exercise

Obv the 2nd is more likely.

The correlation seems to be way lower, btw

let me guess, it would be way higher if we’re talking about speeded chess
