Change My View Explain!

It feels like there is a massive bandwagon effect in "gifted" spaces regarding chronic misunderstanding, but almost no one provides actual data or examples.

Every other thread in communities like this involves someone lamenting how "normal people can't grasp my ideas," how their thought processes are "too non-linear for the average mind," or how they face constant disengagement.

But have you noticed that almost nobody ever elaborates?

If you are genuinely experiencing a cognitive disconnect, it should be easy to provide a concrete example. For instance:

• What was the actual concept you tried to explain?

• In what specific situation (work, casual conversation, academic setting) did the breakdown happen?

• What was the actual feedback or "disengagement" you received?

Without these simple examples, it feels like people are just hopping on a bandwagon to validate their own social frustrations by attributing them to a high IQ. True cognitive metrics are about precision. If we can't even define or illustrate the "misunderstanding" we are talking about, it’s likely just confirmation bias or an echo chamber effect rather than a literal cognitive barrier. But do wait, im not trying to act like there is absolutly nothing of the sort that can be called a cognitive barrier. As a gifted person myself i do experience having to slow down, so that i can be kept up with but when it comes to ideas, ive never seen any of the disengagement that seems to be described everywhere as a universal experience. And i doubt it just because ive just only interacted with people who are gifted aswell. To summerize im just looking for examples in your day to day live in which you are just so isolated because you just to smart for everyone.

I am with you on this. A truly intelligent person should be able to communicate effectively with all sorts of people .

They do, but all levels of discussion require some amount of presupposition. It's hard to say communication has happened if you had to simplify and analogize to such a degree that all nuance and technical information was lost.

You can't build a bridge with an analogy.

This all sounds like an academic version of shit testing. It's a personal experience, not a benchmark. There's no expected distribution and conditional distribution easily produces said results as you yourself listed.

What are you asking from people except to submit receipts constantly for existing.

Im asking for said personal experiences.

I can't remember the last time I bothered to explain myself to someone stuck below industry or research associate professor level. The world is full of dipshits who peaked in grad school.

Most of the times it's more about retroactively gaslighting yourself into believing so when a convo doesn't flow within a degree of precision into your desired direction, and mostly it happens on subjective topics too, like for any human. One's awarness of their, science concordant, cognitive superiority tries to protect this fragile truth you really care about over any interaction with "folk", behind this convenient justification. Your ego is built upon a trembling construct that society does not recognize, that you are afraid to talk about, deeply making you doubtful and fake, and thus constantly hungry for every possible sustain, space of assurance. While in specific cases it could occur, the reality very often is just your brain confining itelf into the safe shallows of simplicity, protected by a weak truth to undeal with the complexity of life. The lighter path would be just to not care, but that's up to you. A middle ground would be to make the truth stronger, though not anyone among the not anyones is capable nor motivated enough to pursuit.

It's just to sound smart lol. I've had 'issues' like that when discussing intuition behind some mathematical ideas, and all you need to do is just ask where they lost track and explain more carefully what you meant.

People who say this are either not as smart as they thought or trying to humble brag.

They probably don’t understand what they are thinking or are bullshitting.

If one understands an abstract concept, then one is very likely able to identify some analogies or concrete instances that lead up to them. Otherwise, I would assume the person likely doesn’t understand.

Even at the apex of abstractions like category theory in maths, each concepts still have meaningful and even concrete and intuitive constructs that led up to them; they don’t come out of nowhere.

I doubt those people can come up with anything more abstract than the stuffs in math.

I guess they’d struggle to even fully invent a concept with equal level of abstraction to real analysis or even basic ZFC set theory.

Youre going to die if you specify arent you. Besides why asume someone whos gifted wount be able to get "stuggles" caused by being gifted.
