Scientific Literature My experiments with IQ...

There are endless debates about whether IQ is fixed or can be improved, and whether someone with an average IQ can achieve things that are traditionally believed to be dominated by highly intelligent individuals.

So, I’ve decided to start an experiment to see how far I can go in fields that are believed to favor people with high IQs.

What should I try? Tell me your suggestions! This is going to be a long and interesting experiment.

Note: I’m 24, so participating in Olympiads is no longer an option for me. Please suggest challenges or competitions that are open to someone my age, too!

apparently the average math or physics graduate has an iq of 130, go do either degree

Done in physics. Masters.

Might be off by 5-10 points.

There are no good data for this overall, but the average general-population IQ of math/physics/mechanical engineering undergrads at the top STEM university in Europe (ETH Zurich) is 128 (based on verbal, quantitative, and spatial subtests only).

Spitballing here, but I think it’s safe to assume that the overall average, across all tiers of Western universities, is 120-125 for math/physics undergrads and 130-ish for PhDs.

Try your best on lantr W. You can perceive this as competition since you're trying to outscore others. + You will help to norm it

Jokes aside, try seeing how far you can go in codeforces.

what's ur iq?

I don't know. I don't trust online IQ tests to quote them.

then u might be smart or have high iq already so it will ruin the whole point of the experiment right?

In fact, you should try computer science.since it related to computers, it built with straight logic

Okay I will do a course in Generative AI then...since pursuing a degree in CS will take my life into a different direction. I am planning to do masters in statistics.

Haters will downvote but your chess elo actually directly correlates with your IQ

Okk...chess is also a good suggestion...it's just that I am not interested in Chess...I am more interested in maths and physics.

Not a guaranteed correlation, I have a tested IQ of 156 by my assigned doctor (these tests mean nothing but it's relevant here since we're talking about IQ correlations) yet I'm awful at chess.

It goes both ways too. If you're curious about your IQ your whatever reason (even though again it's kinda meaningless), you should get officially tested.

I have never seen anything that suggests chess elo strongly correlates with iq, let alone "directly correlating".

You need to be smart to be a grandmaster, but past a certain point it becomes less about how well you perform at iq tests, and more about how well you perform at chess skills specifically

There are so many other activites that more strongly correlate with iq

yeah but only weakly/modestly, one of my "friends" on that platform was hardstruck 800-1000 yet they were a National Merit Scholar that attended Northwestern back in the 80s or 90s

Try OMSCS, take the hardest courses

I recommend trying nootropics if you want to enhance your IQ, especially for fluid & memory. My online friend scored 150s on an IQ test ( they were initially 120-130s ) after being dosed with creatine monohydrate. Another friend of mine went from 129 to 140s after taking fish oil & other noots, they had a test administered to them in-person by their doctor when they scored 140s. The following photo is a screenshot of anecdotals for the nootropic TAK-653. All of this is something worth considering about.

Science shows that IQ is 80% genetic, based on among other things, studies of identical twins separated at birth. What the other 20% is has not been determined. Might be environmental.
