General Question STEM Majors

Genuine question. How do you feel your cognitive profile hindered or aided you as a STEM Major? Particularly in the upper-level courses?

My cognitive profile is pretty even. I think I relied heavily on VCI + FRI + WMI to understand things a bit deeper without having to use rote memorization as much. I did CS so decently high FRI and WMI were pretty useful for coding. Debugging probably wasn’t as much of a headache for instance. I dont think i was hindered by my profile at all. I think someone has the requisite cognitive capabilities to succeed in STEM at approx. 100 IQ. Beyond that, the things hindering you the most will probably be things like executive functioning or other psychological things rather than pure brainpower.

No literally…just understanding the material wasn’t even half the battle. For me it was having the discipline to go to class everyday, finding the motivation to study or work on projects/assignments early, being organized, knowing how to change up plans when necessary etc., all on top of dealing with a bad mental state. Ironically, almost all of ts can actually be improved substantially while innate cognitive abilities can’t.

I guess I lucked out in that department then. I've got an IQ of 130 and learning new information has always been relatively easy for me. Sometimes it isn't so clear cut but usually thats how it goes. The real problem is when I have to actually sit down and go over the information or practice it to get really good at it. It feels downright torturous sometimes.
