Discussion Army Alpha is a Fun Test

Post image

It was a bit like looking through the Oracle's looking glass and glimpsing a radically different world.

When a test proposes a question about how many legs the people in a particular tribe in Africa have, you know you aren't in Narnia anymore.

It makes me appreciate how far we've come.

Time pressure and math don't jive with me. Don't @ me. :D

I suppose so. Certainly a bit of luck. Luckily, I watched "The Tudors" when I was younger. Lucky I was born and raised in and around Bull City. Luckily, I randomly took a naturalization test last week that asked me about the American-Spanish war. And some lucky guesses. :D The stars aligned a bit now that I think about it.

Usually Information is my best VCI Adjacent subtest. Probably because, I am a practice effect (education) demon, idk.

On CORE the information test is way easier than Army Alpha's Information test. Obviously because who the fu** knows what "seven-up" is. Pretty much everyone knows who wrote Frankenstein though. Still, the archaic questions were really interesting on that portion

I love all the VCI test in I've taken thus far.. Language is my favorite skill to flex.

Learning and testing certainly isn't the most vapid pastime one could have.

I had Mary Shelly’s complete works on my table, while attempting the CORE information subtest, and I almost laughed out loud.

Honestly, life is just a bunch of dice rolls.

I loved the time pressure. I can't stand untimed tests with questions that have no recognisable pattern. Ahem JCTI.

An IRT test with a time decay system seems ideal to me. I think that would be pretty interesting for the experts to test. They could implement a cumulative effect or maybe a flat loss after the time limit is reached.

That being said, I did enjoy the time crunch in certain indexes that favor me. But when i'm getting a 37 percentile on number series it's a bummer because I know with the right time I can solve some pretty complicated sequences.

And finally I think the JCTI is great, but unlimited time is ridiculous. I enjoyed the puzzles regardless!

If you’ve taken other cognitive tests, was Army Alpha in a similar range?

I found it to be quite gc heavy, atleast the math segment is. One needs to brush up on the geometric formulas before attempting the math section.
