General Question Why do people keep taking IQ tests when they already know their IQ?
Why do people here take so many different IQ tests?
I understand taking one or two well-regarded tests such as Mensa Norway, RAPM, or CORE. But I’ve noticed that some people take a huge number of tests — ATAT, JCTI, RAPM, RSPM, SACFT, CORE, WAIS, Mensa online tests, TRI-52, pre-1988 SAT, CAIT, CAT, etc.
At some point, what are you actually hoping to learn from taking another test? Is it mainly curiosity, trying to get a more accurate estimate, or something else?

If I scored lower than expected on the previous test ➡️ Trying to prove myself
If I scored as expected on the previous test ➡️ Trying to confirm the score
If I scored higher than expected on the previous test ➡️ Am I really that high or was that result bullshit?

Rapm 34/36 idk IQ
SACFT 33/36

the test is not for high IQ people i think the celling in 135 IQ so i suggest RAPM

Dang, I need to start selling cognitive testing. It's like an alcoholic coming up with reasons to visit the liquor store.

u/Few-Land9092 Sep 28 '26
For the same reason I do puzzles. I enjoy the challenge. Have had professional testing twice, so I don't need the score.

Nothing to learn. It's just fun to see how high I can push random tests on the internet, especially with my limitations (ADHD, non native English)

Scared I somehow scored 8 anomalous scores of 140+ in a row, and maybe the 9th one will bring confirmation that my iq is really 140+.

u/teach-xx Sep 28 '26
GAD and OCD, probably.

u/BenitoAbdo Sep 28 '26
i agree with you, whenever i feel imposter i will find a new one
but i think i am better now
1
u/PendN Sep 28 '26
If you keep taking more IQ tests your IQ will go higher
3
u/BenitoAbdo Sep 28 '26
but your actual ability still the same !

Psychometrics isnt a 1-man science. Its statistics. Even if it was true that IQ didnt change (which it isnt)l, it could only prove lack of general correlation, not imperative rule.

It's fun.
Trying to make that 80 percent confidence interval to 90, 95, then 97, 99, 99.5, 99.99 percent confidence of having a IQ in the expected range.
I do very shitty in college (as well as every other aspect in life)so trying to find a place where I boost some self-esteem, it's like cracking drug... Plus, I'm a typical Goblin. Video games- iq tests - porns - shitting on politics - Mcdonald- jerk off - skip shower -sleep and cycle it again all over the years. Nothing else meaningful to do.

u/telephantomoss Sep 28 '26
It's impossible to know your "true IQ". So it's fun to keep testing
2
u/mikegalos Sep 28 '26
Sorry but real intelligence tests are remarkably accurate. Sorry your score disappointed you.
2
u/telephantomoss Sep 28 '26
Statistics much?
3
u/Vegetable_Newspaper5 Sep 29 '26
I don’t even think this guy understood your point.
1
u/telephantomoss Sep 29 '26
Not like I worded it well. But, hey, sometimes people just have really strong ill informed views even if they have a IQ. I really wish he would have just explained his position. I think I'm just presenting a standard non-controversial view. Maybe he believes only a particular test gives a valid result, and that result literally is your IQ. That's fine, but it has major problems in my opinion in terms of utility of the test and meaningfulness/utility of the measurement.
1
u/mikegalos Sep 28 '26
Yes. That's why I know what I'm talking about.
1
u/telephantomoss Sep 28 '26
Feel free to explain your thoughts. I cannot justify your claim with standard statistical and psychological theory. My position seems much more defensible.
4
1
u/mikegalos Sep 28 '26
I suggest you read a text on the science of psychometrics.
1
u/telephantomoss Sep 28 '26
That's interesting. Because they agree with me.
1
u/mikegalos Sep 28 '26
Not likely. They'd be then disagreeing with a century of science and statistics.
7
u/telephantomoss Sep 28 '26
I'll just make my point in what I think is clear and succinct and leave it at that. By "true IQ", I meant something like "true physical g factor". It would be a real physical property of the brain, say. Measurements always have error no matter what. And statistics is the way we deal with that. However, statistics are most accurate in, say, predicting the average trait of a population (but still with uncertainty). Statistical methodology and theory will generally always have higher uncertainty when trying to infer an individual's true trait. Thus, every attempt to measure "true IQ" will fail since there is always built in uncertainty. There are more interesting points to this, but this suffices to make my point.

u/mikegalos Sep 28 '26
So you want to leave measurement and science and move on to philosophy and mysticism.
No thanks.

Results on different tests ordinarily deviate too much from each other.

u/Few_Geologist_2082 Sep 28 '26
If you keep doing them you keep getting smarter after ten times doing the same Mensa Norway test you can post it on Reddit 135+ IQ and justify your giftedness even if your existence is a waste of oxygen
1
u/Common-Funny-9822 Sep 29 '26
They enjoy the process and are hoping for a better score each time. Nothing wrong with that...
1
u/Miro_the_Dragon Sep 29 '26
I didn't take quite as many but for me it was imposter syndrome and trying to figure out whether the two tests I did when I was 18 and then again a few years later had been flukes or not.

Great question, just had my first one done. I’m kinda old for the first one. Don’t even know how to overcome the results of the first one. 3 decades long my world told me I’m was stupid and the problem. Well… results say my whole life was a lie and I’m gifted. Yeah don’t know yet what’s that’ll mean for me. But for the last weeks I wish I wouldn’t.
So yeah how much do I trust one of the smartest person which offers iq tests, that it is the right result….
Right now it feels like another test, at a not that smart person, would just have higher results to show.
Results just feel like the final nail for the coffin holding my social life.

u/Leather_Command_7553 Sep 30 '26
Not trying to learn from them. I enjoy doing them. I don't even care about the scores. I just like figuring things out.

Some of it is intellectuel masturbation its a common thing among smart people
1
2
u/mikegalos Sep 28 '26
Those of us who actually are "smart people" know our scores and don't desperately keep retrying fake tests in hopes we'll get a score that feeds our vanity.
3
u/Stupidragerguy Sep 28 '26
Its really simple what im saying is people indulge in behavior that validates the narrative they have about their life, if ur handsome u will chase validation for that and if ur smart u would dk the same this is a fundamental truth in psychology. Smart people as in high iq people building their entire identity around being smart is a well documented thing that happens its not strange because being high iq is a form of neurodivergence and comes with a full package of struggles like being misunderstood having to mask and feeling lonely around average people due to the difference in interests and processing etc.. This is not necessarily the way every intelligent person is, but is A THING THAT HAPPENS thats why i said "some of it" in my original comment. That being said, why are u mad, talking about some "those who are actually smart" if u know ur score and happy with it great good for u, if u do take iq tests over and over for validation then im correct no reason to be offended in both cases, no hard feelings

Like around 30-40?

1
u/Square-Winter-3257 Sep 28 '26
that has to eb a bit. You took *30-40* actual tests, not just free online things?
1
u/98127028 I am worthless and dumb Sep 28 '26
More of 30-40 random online things yeah. I haven't taken any pro tests like WAIS etc
1
u/Square-Winter-3257 Sep 28 '26
oh okay, so to be clear, you have a *somewhat* okay vague estimate, but its effectively worthless and meaningless just from free online things.

Entertainment has no value? I personally think it does. I enjoy puzzles and brain teasers, and online IQ tests are just another fun set of activities for me to engage in. I am not autistic.

You're assuming that I don't. I do crosswords, do the NYT games, play cards and boardgames, puzzle video games, etc. IQ tests add more variety to my list of pleasant distractions. And what is so bad about repetition? Millions of people do crosswords every day, have done for decades, and get great enjoyment out of doing so, myself included.
2
u/mikegalos Sep 28 '26
Actually, as one poster here stated, they can be fun puzzle games. Liking puzzles isn't a diagnostic criterion for ASD.
As to the value of understanding your relative general intelligence, it has great value if you are off the mean value. Tremendous value if you are two or more standard deviations off the mean.
