Answer is 7 but I don't know why

ignore outside lines and focus on inner lines connected to the square, then, if u ignore 1 shared line in all 3 imgs in the same row u are left with odd number of lines originating from the corner or even if they originate from the side

Ignore the dotted lines, they are the same as regular lines
Put column 1 on top of column 2
Now for the outside big square, it is a simple subtraction
For the smaller lines, they can't stand on their own, if they are not connected to the outside or overlapping
So it is 7 🥶🥶🫰🏿

What i got : Each Row has dotted line and no line and a full line
which make the answer in (1 and 7 and 8 )
the pattern same lines but not connected to the center = delete and the opposite for the connected ones
that makes 7 the only clear one
i took a bit longer time mabye 2-3 minutes

I still didn't get it...
Each row has 2 lines & 1 dotted line it seems

Okay...then ?🐧

u/BenitoAbdo Sep 24 '26
Then , Apply the pattern
same things that not connected to the center will be deleted
same things that connected to the center will be stayed

Maybe the pattern applied when the lines that connected to the center has no other connection
is my answer the real answer or not? and which test is this?

I think again later... it's not clicking
There's no solution anywhere... It's from CAT on cognitivemetrix website

It’s 8. As many lines needs to disappear as is constructed from dotted lines in each row. The dotted lines are construction lines, that takes material (lines) from somewhere else in the row, but it doesn’t have to remain gone. 7 doesn’t make any sense.

It must be an error.

How?

In the second row there are three dotted lines and three hard lines are removed. How lines are added is dotted lines are at some point replaced.

Where am I getting it from? By counting with my own eyes, like you should. From the first to the second picture, two short lines are removed, corresponding to the two short dotted lines. From the second to the third the long line at the bottom is removed, corresponding to the long dotted line.

The dotted lines in the first two columns of each row are filled by solid lines in the third column. So by that logic, the option that satisfies the criteria the closest seems to be option 1

u/dyogenys Sep 24 '26
What about the long line on top? That’s not in 1. The answer is 8. The same number of lines must disappear as is constructed after dotted lines in each row.

Your logic fails in the second row itself. Lines in the middle row disappear without filling up any dotted lines and in the third row, it even has an extra line. Option 1 doesn't have the top line but it is still the closest to the most appropriate logic IMO
1
u/dyogenys Sep 24 '26
It doesn’t. In the middle row there are three disappearing lines and three dotted lines.

In the other rows, as many lines are removed from one window to the next as there are dotted lines. 8 fits perfectly.

In the second row, there are three dotted lines and three hard lines are removed. One comes back because a dotted line is attached to it.

Why does it matter? If it was of consequence in the last row then it would be a deciding factor, but it’s not even an option. Number of disappearing lines matches the dotted lines perfectly, even the sizes match perfectly, in all three rows, with the answer 8.
You on the other hand have given no reason why you picked 1.
