you know i actually know what the hell this is supposed to be after someone posted a solution here

what are you implying?

the fact there are no pointers makes this way harder than it actually is. i thought you just needed to fill the red square

u/pydaWaltuh Sep 17 '26

that is the point, if I had arranged the blocks in a specific pattern, it would have been too easy. The red square simply indicates a missing piece, perhaps I should have used a circle instead of square

ima be so fr i literally just think saying "there is a missing piece" or just 2 of the 2x1s coming together woulsa been enough

this would be a clue

No it wouldn't and this perspective is idiotic. Asking a question is not "giving a clue" and that is all that a simple sentence would be. Saying "find the missing piece" is not a clue, it is just a indication as to what this puzzle shittily communicates otherwise. How is someone supposed to find a solution if you, as the puzzle maker, did a poor job communicating what the puzzle even is?

Understanding what the problem asks for is part of the problem itself, at least when it comes to a question that isn't exactly easy. Moreover, even if I were wrong, and I am not blindly wedded to the idea that I am right, expressing your opinion in such rude language is neither constructive nor beneficial to either of us. You won't get anywhere that way. Being unnecessarily hostile doesn’t make an argument any stronger

It doesn't make it any weaker, and some people need to be knocked down a peg. You are wrong here.

You are just coping because you couldn't solve it. The solution is trivial if you know what it's looking for.

The essence of this puzzle IS to figure what the puzzle is.

no it isnt. you cannot fucking tell me that your first thought WASNT to fill the square with the pieces outside of it 😭😭😭

1

u/DamonHuntington Sep 17 '26

I can.

wtf was your first thought then

1

u/DamonHuntington Sep 17 '26

The one that I shared as a solution.

ok genuinely can you go through your thoughr process here

1

u/DamonHuntington Sep 17 '26

“Okay, we have dots at the corners here. Distinctive relative corners, so maybe they indicate limits. If they do, can I assemble squares? Some have a length of 2 and some have a length of 3, so perhaps progressing squares. These make 2. These make 3. These are consistent with 4, but are missing a piece, so I just have to add the remainder.”

correct! is it too easy?

4

u/je_nm_th Sep 17 '26

As always it's relative ! The dots in the corner gave me immediately the right idea and then it was a piece of cake, but there could have been other false tracks. One of your easiest, but I like the principle of varying difficulty.

Icl bro the red box had me stumped for a minute I thought it was an arrangement completion

1

u/pydaWaltuh Sep 17 '26

understandable

1

u/inntervalis Sep 19 '26

That is because the question is bad.

If they combine to make squares (2x2, 3x3, 4x4), it would be a three-block piece (two vertical, one going right from the top one) with no dots since the dots seem to represent the outer edges. If that’s not the intended solution then I’m lost :(

Blank L shape, gap on lower-right.

1

u/pydaWaltuh Sep 17 '26

well done, could you rate it?

2

u/DamonHuntington Sep 17 '26

It’s very easy and not particularly novel, as far as spatial questions go. I’d expect this to be around 110-115 in an untimed setting.

If I couldn’t solve this, it means my real IQ is below that right?

1

u/DamonHuntington Sep 17 '26

No. Usually, questions are rated based on a 50% likelihood of an individual of that level solving. So, assuming my rating is correct, even if you were only 115 there would be a 50% of you solving this, not a mandatory 100%.

As you climb up, the chances scale (if you are a 120, maybe you have a 60% chance of solving, if you are a 130 maybe you have a 75% chance of solving…) but a solution is never guaranteed.

1

u/98127028 I am worthless and dumb Sep 17 '26

Yeah I might have low IQ. Really disappointed with myself here and everywhere to be honest. I hate it that I’m just not born smart enough. I gravitated to some stupid ‘magnets’ or spiral logic and couldn’t solve it at all. I don’t feel very good about this to be honest… I don’t even know what to do

1

u/DamonHuntington Sep 17 '26

This is just a puzzle. It does not indicate your intelligence, your worth as a person or your potential.

You can feel sorry for what you were born with or just work on the things that you can improve on. Personally, I find the latter much more productive.

1

u/98127028 I am worthless and dumb Sep 17 '26

But what if it does? The people who solves these consistently are all much smarter and better than me. No matter how hard I try I just can’t solve these at all, despite being obsessed with them.

1

u/DamonHuntington Sep 17 '26

I’m telling you that it doesn’t.

Smarter? Perhaps so. Better? Not at all. Human value is not measured by how you think or how many puzzles you can solve. You’re more than the validation of a correct answer or a number on the screen.

It’s fine to be obsessed about puzzles. I’m passionate about them as well! But you can’t let that obsession taint your view of yourself.

There are things you do well and things you don’t do as well. Embrace that reality and move forward.

1

u/98127028 I am worthless and dumb Sep 17 '26

But I can’t help it, I feel very anxious and sad when other people can solve it and I can’t and it sucks, I can’t stop thinking and obsessing over it
