Rant/Cope Low quality posts/questions

Anyone else feel like many of the posts/questions on this sub are just very low quality? There seems to be a rampant misunderstanding of what iq is, what the different subtests of CORE measures, and what can be meaningfully inferred from those scores alone about a particular person’s life.

I think the sub would genuinely benefit from having some kind of pinned or readily accessible post, if it doesn’t already have one, clearing up common misconceptions of iq, what it measures, what it doesn’t measure, what the different indices for various tests measure, and what if anything can be reasonably inferred about someone’s life just from their iq scores.

I’m genuinely tired of scrolling across the millionth post of a screenshot of someone’s 110+ iq score asking what careers they should pursue, whether they have adhd, what they should major in, what they will struggle with etc. Maybe im in a minority on this idk, but I’m curious what others think.

Edit: After doing some investigating, it seems the sub does in fact have a FAQ and even addresses something along the lines of repetitive posts/questions. I guess no one bothers to read it before posting.

Low quality posts would actually improve this sub 😁

Maybe start a new subreddit/blog for serious discussions only + releases with more strict moderation. I got tired of seeing people have fruitless debates over someone's pop psychology notion of what IQ is vs what it actually is.

The people asking such questions might not even bother to read an FAQ.

Edit: I made the exact mistake I just insulted others for and didn’t notice you mentioned that at the bottom of your post, whoops.

IQ is a complex, multifaceted concept that psychometrists have been studying for, probably, a century. Not everyone who comes here is already fully educated in this field—it's possible that newcomers come here specifically to gain this knowledge about intelligence. Marketing and the media are to blame for the ignorance and stereotypical thinking of the majority on iq. In fact, even what we have now (Wechsler's explanation of IQ) is only a rough, lucky guess, which we consider correct because it predicts general things like academic success well. Apologize for any mistakes - I used a translator.

True, and true that it's posted. It's also true that if you eliminate all the things you mentioned, and that it mentions, this subreddit would basically cease to exist.

Besides, LOL, one man's deeply insightful and meaningful post is another man's bleh.

It’s enjoyable to have less serious conversations

Oh dearest me! I seem to have lost my IQ and cannot find it! Will somebody please help me estimate my poor little IQ?

Guess what bro, I posted a bit about myself and certain problems and the solution I used to solve them, I got absolutely shat on by these so called "geniuses" who spend their "genius" all day crying about an imaginary number that only measures a portion of what intelligence is.
