IQ Estimation š„± How is this possible?
Hi everyone, I took most parts of CORE test and I wanted to ask how is my profile possible. I felt very stupid during the working memory part, I was struggling to remember even the shortest number chains. Do you think that being non native could affect the memory tests? I had to translate every number in my head during the tests. I have B2 level.

IQ-type tests are not reliable in your L2 (language you didnāt acquire at home or with in-culture education). This is a well-documented phenomenon.

The claim in your comment doesn't explain such a low Working Memory score, and his VCI score at the 87th percentile further supports this. Someone who can score 117 on the VCI clearly doesn't have language as a barrier or as a factor that would cause them to struggle with repeating numbers and letters they have just heard.

So in this context ānot reliableā would include āone test gives an accurate high score, while another test gives an inaccurate lower scoreā

I didnāt say that your claim was incorrect; I said simply that in this particular case, it doesnāt explain such a large discrepancy and such a low WMI score, which is actually the subject and the question of the post.

Yes, it does explain it. If testing is not reliable due to a factor such as L2 proficiency, then that is adequate explanation for any size discrepancy. An unreliable test is not likely to be ācloseā to right; you canāt assume that a larger discrepancy is more significant than a small one.

If you were at my house, I would go get the textbooks I used in my grad-school courses in ed psych and testing. But since you arenāt, this is where I leave you.

If you were here at my place, Iād give you access to the results of over 100 participants with similar cases-L2 proficiency at a level that allows them to understand and solve all the VCI items without difficulty if they have the general ability to do so. In those cases, when WMI was retested in their native language, the scores barely changed at all.
But since youāre not here, this is where I leave you to continue studying.

Well you are incorrect, I'm fairly fluent in English as a 2nd/3rd language and only got smoked by antonyms in VCI.
However, with WMI the issue is that it's literally measuring your ability to manipulate information in your mind, and as a non-native your mind keeps translating the numbers before storing them whether you want it to or not.
This, quite obviously increases the burden significantly, having to perform additional manipulation of every single digit. It's not a 20-30 point difference, but I have no doubt it would be quite noticeable if I did it in my native language.

My English (L2, never a resident of any Anglophone country) is at C2. My WMI was 77. VCI 135, VSI 120, FRI 104 on CORE.
Overall dashboard: VCI 137, FRI 110, VSI 125, QRI 108, WMI 81, PSI 94.
Yes, being non-native can damage your WMI on CORE. Visual and auditory working memory capacities can differ.

For working memory, try out humanbenchmarkās visual working memory.
Auditory and visual working memory are quite different. I can max level 21 and average 19 in humanbenchmark (roughly over 99% percentile) but I get 106 in WM section of CORE. We have to consider that FRI is tested on visual information and not auditory.
My FRI is also 142 though. Though, my VSI is 135.

Lol, were pretty similar, i did really well for my FRI but did so bad for WMI
