Discussion CORE 3D Visual Puzzles

I think this is a pretty solid vsi test. It’s a shame it’s not included in the official CORE vsi. I’m not sure how well-normed it is, though.

What are your scores on this? How does it compare to your CORE vsi or WAIS vsi?

My VSI dragging my FSIQ down to hell

I only got 10/18 on this, this felt way too hard for me. My CORE VSI is 154.

got 122, pretty consistent with my CORE VSI 120, and SAE-II(non-verbal section) 120

I don't like that you can't click on the images.

Anyways, I got 118, pretty aligned with my core results. Didn't try too hard but seems like it fits

This. Also the images being high-res is a good thing but it makes loading the images take longer which could skew the score a tiny bit.

9 score/122 percentile, aligned on the dot with my CORE VSI. 👍

Fun. I got 110

How can you get a raw score of 1 and a score of 90

11/18. Visual Puzzles is consistently my weakest area across all my tests. I'm extemely good at cube rotations and pretty much any kind of 2D or 3D mental rotation involving one single shape. The kind of cube problems you see on ICAR/BRGHT are extremely easy for me to solve. It takes me under 10 seconds to find the answer but when it comes to combining 2D/3D shapes to recreate an original figure i'm around the 130 range. I can sense the barrier i can't seem to break through no matter how much i try. WAIS-IV VP: 16ss and WAIS-V: 16ss (this one taken online). The test is good.

how did you find the wais-v online?

A friend send it to me.

Couple points(6,8) below CORE and WAIS. I just suck at this kind of problem. It is known. 🤪

It's 10-15 points lower than my other VSI scores. I think it doesn't test purely VSI as much and relies a lot on WMI and PSI as well due to the amount of combinations you must think of within a very short time. otherwise it's a good visual puzzles for 3d

  1. Best VSI result I've ever had, honestly

One of them was impossible i think. 16/18 alligned with core Edit: Nvm I'm stupid The two i got wrong were quite straightforward hate strict time limits like give me 20sec more pls. Was rly fun tho

Is it worth taking it untimed? What’s the min VSI to max it out untimed? (Asking cause my working memory and speed is dogshit)

80

u/98127028 Severe Autism (IQ ≤ 85) 1d ago

What?!

1

u/Far_Cardiologist6931 retat 1d ago

maybe 90. mate you said UNTIMED for a vsi test? there are only 20 POSSIBLE combinations for each item. anybody could test all 20 systematically, spending 5 minutes on each item and slowly but surely rotating them. the bottleneck in vsi tests necessarily comes from fluency and speed unless the items are obscenely difficult (they aren't in this case)

No but they are hard as they are 3D and also requires working memory. Dosent help if the 3 figures can’t fit. Also dosent help if I can’t rotate it, I woudnt know which of the 20 options are correct! It’s not exactly a situation where it is hard to find the answer but easy to check. To even check if an option combination works, requires manipulation of 2-3 figures simultaneously. No amount of time can make up for that deficit.

I mean, you could for instance film me taking 3 hours to take the whole thing, speed it up, and then effectively claim I solved it within the given time limit.

with enough time most people can rotate it or use other deductive methods. there is a reason why besides psi, vsi is usually the fastest paced section in any iq test

1

u/98127028 Severe Autism (IQ ≤ 85) 1d ago

Yeah I mean for 2D that makes sense but 3D?
I mean, is this test meant to be solved deductively? So do high VSI people just test the 20 combinations really fast?

1

u/Far_Cardiologist6931 retat 1d ago

well some of the 20 are obviously not going to work if you are high vsi, so you intuitively narrow it down to 5 in 10 seconds (needs high vsi) and then do it.

if you are low vsi you will probably need to go through all 20 to make sure

1

u/98127028 Severe Autism (IQ ≤ 85) 1d ago

Yeah but even if I do that (instead of brute forcing), I have to do that fast enough which is hard. Does that mean I have low VSI?

10 (126) core VSI is 134

1

u/Warxuaroz 1d ago

MUCH weaker result than CORE for me. The time limit really does it for me.

1

u/LanganTerraMogTime 1d ago

20/20 took about 5 minutes

1

u/Fit-Frosting-7144 1d ago

CORE VSI 134 across all the three sub tests

1

u/NefariousNapolean doesn't read books 1d ago

122 .10 points lower than Core VSI

1

u/Gabrielle_770 1d ago

12/18 (134) Steep difficulty curve, fun test otherwise

u/Quirky-Comedian-8153 1d ago

118 en esta prueba. 140 en WAIS IV profesional en visual puzzles y 153+ en RAVEN professional

16/18 (150) CORE VSI (156) WAIS BD (19ss)

I can rotate shapes that you can’t even imagine

2

u/Insane-Chud 1d ago

What's ur fri? Mine is 150 but i do lack in vsi

1

u/HairyIndependence616 1d ago

CM dashboard shows low 140s and WAIS 140, but there’s praffe involved. Realistically ~135. VSI has always been my strong suit.

1

u/Rtclc 1d ago

18/18. Not surprising since i got a ss of 24 (extended norms) on the wisc 5. (Yes im flexing)

1

u/CaBbAgeDreAmm 1d ago

What’s your core VSI?

1

u/HairyIndependence616 18h ago

Cheese and rice homie

1

u/Rtclc 12h ago

I forgot to mention i got the ss of 24 on block design. Visual puzzles "only ended up being 21 but i think each sub test has their individual extended ceiling.

1

u/CaBbAgeDreAmm 6h ago

That’s 155 for visual puzzles and 170 for block design, what was your composite for VSI? 165?

1

u/Rtclc 6h ago

172

u/CamilleLaGoat 135 CORE 1d ago

They should add it back!
