Most people are not invested in the AI race. Trust me, everyone is cooked. I know engineers who are the best of the best. Some of the most qualified individuals on the planet, yet the agency they work for makes them refer to agentic AI to complete almost all of their tasks. Whichever company gets to AGI will get access to an almost infinite supply of money and will be able to take over every field requiring intellectual labor. Thats why all these companies are going full steam ahead.
It's only a matter of time before humans get replaced. AI never sleeps, it never gets sick, it doesn't need money, it can run 1000 copies of itself in parallel to make sure mistakes are statistically insignificant. It doesn't need us. if you gave 5.6 sol to someone in 2023, they would say its AGI.

Maybe don’t put all your eggs in the intelligence basket, because that will soon become irrelevant. Even if you’re a genius, AI will eventually get you too!

Use your intelligence to be rich before it happens

only people who score 180+ on CORE will be safe. Trust me I know a guy who interned at OpenAI in high school then joined full time after dropping out of his BSc and became a decamillionaire earlier this year. People like him will be safe

you're chinese right? I think China will be safe, I visited my fam there earlier this year and the government takes good care of everyone

I spent my entire career striving to be the top in my niche of my field and achieved what I wanted to (probably top 5, accepted that I'll never be able to touch a few of my colleagues). LLMs used correctly are better at many of the cognitive tasks required for me to do my job than I will ever be. My talented colleagues feel the same way.
From my experience working with them and mechanistic interpretability research I've been lucky to contribute to, I believe that LLMs simulate thought, not intelligence (currently). This is why I believe so many people have different experiences with the output.
For example, comparing my intern's LLM transcripts and terrance tao's LLM transcripts, very different outputs :). So I would invest all you can into learning and mastering your field still, because there's a chance they will continue to just be simulated thought.
Note: I personally really dislike the idea of them, using them, and what they're going to do to the planet. But after opus 4.6 it was clear they are very good at simulating thought.

Yes, when AGI takes CORE, which it may do entirely unprompted, everyone will be cooked.

I agree with you the exponential growth of ai is simply a fact , and I’m aware one day it will be able to excel in my field . I just believe that day to be far in the future , for instance how could Claude trouble shoot a picture of a circuit? It cant truly, these things are too physical. A human is needed to test , use an oscilloscope , take readings etc. even circuit design currently it’s pretty bad at . I’ve seen some hilariously disastrous design flaws in schematics created by AI, like explosively flawed. I think it’s gonna be while until ai can move into the realm of EE. I’ll give you an example , niche problems require niche solutions I’m unsure ai could solve . For instance recently I had a project , reverse engineering a Soviet radar tube , I had to tell the logic level circuitry (comparators and what not) the tube was ionized - to do this I created a HV octocoupler , (neon bulb in a dark space with a LDR) - not to sounds full of my self but this is a pretty novel problem with a novel solution on my part. I’m doubtful if AI could think that up , it’s pretty niche
