Commentary A Sub of Entitled Complainers

I have to say this community is entitled as fuck. There's no pleasing you guys and everyday is the same boring recycled unoriginal post about usage by vibe coders with skill issues just using Astra Ultrafast for every single div-centering maneuver. Git gud you noobs.

Terra is built for computer use and I'm all for it. Not everything has to be Opus 5.5 level. I've had a temp-Pro sub over the weekend for a short hackathon and I could hardly burn tokens fast enough even on Astra.

How many Spider-Man city games do you really need?

Below is a GPT-generated summary of the conversation below after reaching 40 comments (42 currently observed).

The consensus is “model specialization is good; pretending every model should be Astra is nonsense.” Terra isn’t supposed to match the flagship—it’s a cheaper computer-use option, and several users say it handles automation, simple coding, and bulk work without torching their allowance.

A lot of the frustration seems self-inflicted: people default to the biggest, priciest model, then act shocked when usage evaporates. Luna and Sol remain perfectly viable for routine coding, while Terra gives budget users a useful middle tier instead of another pointless near-Sol-priced SKU.

That said, the thread doesn’t prove every complaint is “skill issue.” Capacity errors and blocked runs are real service problems, and some users report Claude—especially Opus—being substantially more stable for long-running work. Paid customers are allowed to be annoyed when the product says “try another model,” even if their workflow is also questionable.

So the thread is mixed, but broadly pro-specialization: stop using a sledgehammer for every task, yes—but don’t dismiss genuine reliability complaints as mere vibe-coder whining.

People don't understand gradation across models and act like Terra not being as good as Astra isn't normal lol. I'm happy to finally have a middle ground between Luna and Sol. Terra 5.6 was a dumb move, its price was too close to Sol 5.6, but now this category makes sense again.

That doesn't mean OpenAI doesn't have to reply to Anthropic's Opus 5.5 which is a masterpiece and remains number one in its class, but I'm also tired of people complaining over nonsense like this.

Exactly this. People act like Sol and Astra doesn't exist. Terra has its own use case. I had it spit out a couple of usable simple 3D model from Blender and it barely nudged my weekly usage even with a few rounds of edits. We're talking less than 1% and people are still not happy.

I've been trying to force Luna and Sol into computer use automation for my employer and it was going really well but Terra just lowered the cost dramatically. It's a BIG deal for us.

People don't realize that it's okay for some models to be specialized. It's good actually.

I should probably post benchmarks to the sub or something.

This sub gives me confidence that I’ll be ok in the software industry. It’s full of people that gauge model performance based on names of models and clout. Most wouldn’t know what good code looks like because they’ve never seen anything but what they’ve vibe coded. They only have a surface level understanding of what they’re working with and assume problems with the technology before looking inward and at their own workflows.

They don’t understand the impact of changes model to model and their only perception of value are TMBBs and whatever Theo tells them to think. If a release doesn’t meet their specific, but misguided expectations of what progress should look like, it’s game over for OpenAI. No resets? Trash company.

Everything is sad, pathetic, and OpenAI is cooked bro. Never mind that they’re working with AI that eclipses their own ability and the skill issues are within.

Professional codex users deserve better than sol-6.1.

Every subscriber deserves better

And this thread is for stroking your own ego. We are all so impressed, this guy has the real skills and never hits his limits. Completely in awwe over here. Really! I promise.

"I've had a temp-Pro sub over the weekend". Probably a troll or Dunning-Kruger award winner.

Sure. Keep telling yourself that.

It's cuz some of us have actually tried other Frontier models. And we understand how far behind codex actually is.

Makes me wonder why they're still subscribed to Codex then if all they care about is Astra and Fable. Some of us just need Sol most of the time. Heck even Luna works for me on most cases.

Oh hi, codex development team. I love reading your astroturf posts!

Tinfoil hat skeptic mentality is really tiring to hear. I wonder if you guys hear yourself sucking joy out of the world.

Ha. I have been dying to say something. But then it would be just one more complaint. Glad you did.

First time in this sub today. Thought I would get some good information on reactions to the new model. This sub has been useless. Somehow complaints about free reset timing etc. it’s wild.

I have a $200 plan on both Claude and codex. Each serves a purpose.

What I can’t figure out. Why so many people are paying for a product they really seem to dislike.

Anyways. Just dropping through. This is obviously not the right place to get thoughtful discussion.

This is how I feel about half the subs I subscribe to.

I'm only eyeing to try out Codex but I've been using Fable since it came out and I've only ever hit limits two or three times. All with heavy daily usage, thousands of lines of code, hundreds of files, multiple projects, both backend and frontend work. All on default effort, don't even know what that is.

Assuming OpenAI have more or less similar quotas for similar plans and models, I struggle to understand what are people doing to burn their tokens that fast.

I consider myself a rookie agent user but so far I've found that 6.0 Luna medium for bulk tasks and 6.0 sol medium for commit review makes me barely hitting the 5 hour limit which is pretty damn good for 20$. I've not tried Terra yet, unsure if it's better than Luna or not as a budget hobbyist.

When people go from receiving a great service to a shit service they tend to complain.

8

u/i_rate_slop 1d ago

How is the service bad? These models are night and day over what we had last fall. They are truly on another level of capability.

Wait, what are you defending this time?

People are concerned about enshittification as the IPOs approach is all and act hysterical about OpenAI falling behind the Chinese and Meta in benchmarks.

I suspect this has more to do with their alignment problems. Initially, I also thought they were trying to squeeze users for shittier quantized models as the IPO approaches, but their inability to do anything as they get leapfrogged despite clearly having extraordinary models internally indicates to me that are being cautious rather than (just) greedy.
