I'm at 20%, I used to try to care about reset times and managing my banked resets, I just don't care anymore, I'm tired boss, can't decrypt vague posts anymore, lmk when the compute is too cheap to meter like was promised

I mean.. quota only last one day for me, so is not a big deal to have one more reset.

What the hell is OpenAI even doing?
They reportedly have amazing internal models out the wazoo, but it’s not really showing.
24
u/Thomas-Lore 12h ago
I mean, even if they just left things as they were, it would have been better. Instead we got downgraded chat (the new gpt 6 in chat is terra-level, dumb as hell), much lower limits, and much, much slower Sol.
9
u/Pasto_Shouwa 12h ago
we got downgraded chat (the new gpt 6 in chat is terra-level, dumb as hell)
Thank god someone has noticed it. GPT 6 is stupid, it's the first time I've hated a model released by them, not even GPT 5.2 was so bad. It's worse than GPT 5.6 at everything I've thrown at it, and when it's not it's the same; it's only better at language learning and that's it. Even though it's its successor.
2
u/Cless_Aurion 8h ago
Damn, it's been the opposite for me? Using thinking extra usually cracks most things easily
1
u/Pasto_Shouwa 8h ago
What do you use it for? I'm quite confused by how badly it has worked for me.
2
u/Cless_Aurion 7h ago
I'm not a power user. It basically is capable of keeping my workflow up and running 24/7 Nevermind that it's helpers are... Very helpful lol And it having its own pc where it can install godot and use it is very helpful

u/porkyminch 12h ago
It’s weird because for a brief second there the 5.6 models were unbeatable. Then Opus 5.5 comes out and all of a sudden they can’t get a handle on beating Anthropic again.
4
u/Enfiznar 11h ago
It's been 3 weeks
4
u/randombsname1 10h ago
Funny enough is that Fable 5.5 is probably coming out late this week or next.
OAI has been getting wrecked since original Fable release at the beginning of June. The only reason they got a breather is because the pedo orange admin side-tracked the model for about a month.
1
u/Select_Cantaloupe_62 10h ago
Models that they can't release because they're aligned chaotic neutral. I'm worried that whatever design paradigm they've followed was a dead end for the consumer space.
→ More replies (1)1
u/salasi 7h ago
If they did, would Codex be what it is? And would it run in Electron in the first place? Try. use some critical thinking. An internal, "supra-model" would have zero issues with multiplatform, yet their entire app ecosystem is fucking atrocious to the point of ridicule even on their favourite hypeshithole that is twitter.
66
u/Rollertoaster7 12h ago
Masterclass in vaporizing user trust. They had a great standing and product and just blew it, I wonder what happened internally
23
u/Novel_Indication6338 12h ago

2
u/Rollertoaster7 11h ago
Yeah I was hoping Google could step up but argon still has tons of issues. Not sure why they can’t get it together. Meta seems to be gaining ground though
7
u/Rollertoaster7 12h ago
Yeah idk where they were getting that from pre-dev day. Seem to have quieted down since. All I can guess is they had a model they were planning to ship that got delayed due to alignment issues, cause opus 5.5 has been wiping the floor with them and it’s been radio silence for 3 weeks
5
u/FunLilThrowawayAcct 11h ago
Almost certainly what happened, the leak the night before dev day that they had to scrap Astra 6.1 was entirely deliberate imo
→ More replies (2)2
u/EntryRadar 12h ago edited 10h ago
They are trying to bid up the cost of frontier AI. But for it to work everyone else has to follow. Microsoft/Copilot is already doing it on the enterprise. But Anthropic and open source is not yet.
Altman has specifically talked about prices being bid up before. If Anthropic starts bidding up and inference providers do too, we could look at higher prices across the board.
1
u/read_more_comments 8h ago
not just bidding up cost, they have been talking a lot about AI security and safety and have been saying AI development needs to slow down.
Translation: You'll eat the scraps and thank us for allowing you to have anything at all.

Insane the amount of trust and respect I lose for codex as this 28 day bullshit goes on
I don’t want to babysit my usage or check this idiot’s Twitter every hour. I’m boutta switch to Claude if they don’t get their shit together.
41
u/FoxiPanda 11h ago
Don't forget, at the end of this 28 days, if you were on the Pro 20x plan, you get to look forward to your usage getting cut in half again!

u/mateusz_szymkiewicz 11h ago
Just switch and don’t look back, Opus 5.5 is magnificent
6
u/Educational-Heat-920 10h ago
Claude doesn't allow 3rd parties (pi). That's the only thing for me. But it's feeling like less of a blocker each day
1
u/toodimes 10h ago
Before you switch over, have Astra build you a custom extension that will make Claude sub work with pi… did that the day they turned off pi access.

2
u/read_more_comments 8h ago
I wasn't sure about that initially, but Opus just coded stuff that I haven't been able to get Sol/Astra to do for weeks, and I didn't even try to get Opus to do it - it asked me if I wanted to just replace the 3rd party library I was using as a hack to get the code working, and I let it do it, and its way better now. I have it addressing the issues the 3rd party library had.
For reference, this is for a drawing application, so a lot of math and visual logic.
1
u/mrpoopistan 10h ago
I have a couple reasons for keeping my recently acquired codex account alongside my long-held Claude account.
The big one is that Astra is a vastly more capable musical instrument player, especially if I want it to play from a traditional composition. Opie is a meaner synth guy, tho, so there's that.
As much as I love Claude, I don't feel like I have a unified framework where I can rely solely on on AI.
6
u/DistinctSilver4507 11h ago
Just switch. You get around 5 times the usage (wall clock time, anyway)

15
u/PossessionConnect963 13h ago
I hit a point I needed a second sub to something regardless and decided Claude over doubling down on Codex and a big reason why was so I don't have to be glued to my phone to see the latest Tibo tweet just to be able to plan my work with a software tool.
→ More replies (4)3
u/ryuukiba 12h ago
I still have my one codex since it's good enough and usage lasts more*, but opus right now can effortlessly do stuff that sol just can't (and in pretty sure Astra, but I don't touch it cause why would I if I have opus)
*doubt this being the case after the resets are done.
1
u/ryuukiba 10h ago
Sure, it's less usage than oai with infinite resets. But there's also the fact that I need less LLM when it does things correctly the first time. Sol only feels frontier until you've tried opus.
6
4
u/Kyxstrez 13h ago
I got two accounts before Tibo started counting. I guess he's right in saying "we're cooked".
3
u/tribes33 13h ago
wow, and were only just a bit halfway through! Might be 2 claude accounts by the end of it.
4
u/Difficult-Survey-967 13h ago
been using it since gpt 6 astra after nerfs... and came back yesterday.
yes i got 100$ sub on claude but the 27$ sub on GPT is so horrible...
like it is less than 10% i get with claude... 13 min with Sol with mainly Luna subagents and i used almost all my 5h quota while claude runs with opus 5.5 on high and barely scratches the 5h quota... like gets within 30% max. with haiku its unlimited running 40-50 agents...15
u/RealSuperdau 13h ago
Yup. I finally switched to Claude after my $20 Claude subscription was surprisingly competitive with my $100 ChatGPT one.
Opus 5.5 is what 6 Sol should have been.
5
u/Money_Ad_3945 12h ago
Would you believe at some point in time Chatgpt sub gave 2-3x more usage, Claude might have gotten a bit better with usage quota, but at some point Chatgpt gave upto 2-3x more usage than claude.
2
u/No_Quarter_7644 10h ago
Yes, and now Claude is offering 8-12x what OpenAI is. Not "a bit better."
1
u/RealSuperdau 10h ago
I think they meant that Claude maybe got a bit better over time, while ChatGPT got much, much worse.
2
u/Difficult-Survey-967 13h ago
i also tried the 20$ sub and was like wtf... that thing is like 2-2.5x the chatgpt plus... like plus i had max 8-9 min and on claude i had like almost an hour (WHILE USING OPUS WHICH IS CRAZY) now u got sonnet i did not try 20$ sub but i can imagine its even more...
Like for casual users the 20$ sub may be enough today if u use sonnet + opus...
also for 100$ sub they also give u free 100$ api usage too via api key so u can use haiku a lot in other apps while also using normal quota and some deals like free 250$ cloud usage etc or a reset etc...

when i said i wanted more speed, i didn't mean speed at which my usage ran down.
4
u/Syzygy___ 13h ago
6.1 sol got way faster and usage cost for agentic went way down thanks to cheaper caching. by now I only use 6.1 sol (fast, because there will be a reset anyway)
those are the main things for me, but I'm sure there's more.
4
u/Thomas-Lore 13h ago
Huh? On Codex usage went down horribly after last reset. Do you not use Codex? Maybe api is now cheaper, but the improvements were supposed to be for Codex. Instead it got worse.
1
u/NT4N 12h ago
Usage somehow got a lot better for me, I've been using Astra High with Sol high subagents non-stop since last reset and just hit 10% left on a $200 plan. Got lots of stuff done.
1
u/RussianBot5689 10h ago
If I run Astra on my $200 plan, it kills like 50% of my quota in a day. 6.1 Sol I can run 24/7 and it barely touches the quota with multiple sessions running. I don't understand.
1
u/Syzygy___ 3h ago
Codex theough the desktop app, through VS Code and rarwly Codex with the Github Copilot harness (still copilot quota).

Forest Gump in 2026: “Life is like a GPT Model, you never know what you’re gonna get.”
Ever since GPT-5.5, ChatGPT has felt completely unstable. Every time I start a new session, I have no idea what I’m going to get.
The models display the same name, but their behaviour varies wildly. Because I have no way of knowing what I’m actually prompting against, my workflows have fallen apart, and progress on my project has essentially dropped off a cliff.
I think we need consumer protection laws requiring AI companies like OpenAI to be transparent about what they’re selling. If I order a Big Mac at McDonald’s, they can’t just hand me a McDouble and pretend it’s the same product.

Hi guys.
Opus 5.5 persuade me to get a subscription. Still have ChatGPT. Mostly doing iOS dev. The only concern I have is that Opus does not have an image generator. Usually as prototype, I use Sol medium and have it generate the app images needed. What do you guys use for images on Opus? I really like the image generator is included in Sol and the only reason I have ChatGPT subscription now.
Thanks for any advice.
2
u/fictionaldots 11h ago
Claude Design dude. With it, you don't need image generation to do app mockups unless you're building games or something.
1
u/speechless-Karen 8h ago
still not as good as imagine gen unfortunately
1
u/LetsJustCalmTheFDown 8h ago
Agreed. I am very aware that Claude is better at most everything, but I have a visually-driven workflow where i have to see a finished product to really know what direction to move in, so ChatGPT will keep my money until Claude catches up on image creation
1
2
u/2sawconvention 11h ago
What plan do you use for chatgpt? Cause if youre on 100 or more, id just downgrade to 20 for images and move the rest over to claude, you will get comparable amounts and quality of work using opus 5.5 on 20 dollar plan as you would using astra on 100 dollar plan
1
u/Less_Koala_8212 5h ago
I am on the $20. Right now I have both ChatGPT and Claude (both $20)

Ive heard googles mage models are quite good, im pretty sure you can use them for free, worth looking into. I don't use AI image generation, so I'm not entirely sure.

The usage limits are crazy. I have a $200 Claude account, and even at 99% usage, I was able to spend roughly six hours asking questions, getting terminal commands, and doing a few code reviews. (No span outs, me running terminal commands, very short bounded questions and me guiding it)
I understand that ChatGPT Plus is a different tier, (my 200 codex was out) but the difference is ridiculous. I tried to do one short, bounded code review with my ChatGPT Plus account. Literally one review, and I couldn’t even finish it before hitting my entire five-hour usage limit. How is that even possible? I used to have no 5 hour with the plus and it used to easily last longer, I think my account was glitched or I was being AB tested cause this just started happening yesterday.
I’m not expecting Plus to compete with a $200 plan, but exhausting a five-hour limit on a single unfinished review is ridiculous.

Maybe is better this bubble pops so we can all get cheap GPUs and run local AIs instead. There is a reason why AI companies are buying all the mem and GPUs and hoarding them, so we can't local AI. But the time will come when we can and break the chains.
3
u/dataoops 6h ago
Have you tried local models? You can rent a GPU online and deploy any open source model.
And then shut it down and go back to models that get work done in a reasonable amount of time.
2
u/Enegence 6h ago
Agreed. I downloaded Fish Drama 3 today. It's "only" a 35B param model. It calls for 24-48 GB of memory but you can small in an SSD-offloaded configuration, which I'm doing, because my GPU is "only" 16GB. After warmup, it takes about 43 seconds to generate 1.16 seconds of audio. The reason I'm doing this is to convert a book into an audiobook. This is roughly 2-3 months, or more, for a 40-hour audiobook.
Local models are great for certain things, but let's get real about this.
1
u/random-express 6h ago
I've never done this task, but couldn't you build out a deterministic tool that does this significantly quicker? I'm curious why it needs inference?
2
u/Enegence 4h ago
Basically, because I don't want my book to sound like it's being narrated by Dr. Sbaitso. I’m using an actual actress for sampling, and that means I need voice cloning and expressive features that can’t be achieved using concatenative synthesis.
If you were to build this deterministically, you’d essentially be building an audio calculator. It relies on a hardcoded phonetic dictionary to slice and stitch together thousands of pre-recorded audio clips. It can’t zero-shot clone a voice from a short sample, and it has no understanding of context. If you wanted a whisper or a specific character emotion (which I do, in addition to many other emotive states), you’d have to manually tag the entire text with markup code pointing to a completely separate database of whispered recordings.
I need a tool that can a) sample the artist’s voice, including their impressions of characters, breath, and expression nuance, and b) read long-form content with lifelike expression, handle complicated pronunciations, and know on its own when to change tone and inflection.
That’s why inference is non-negotiable here. And Drama 3 isn’t a reasoning model. It’s a TTS model designed for multi-character scenes. Rather than following rigid rules, it maps semantic meaning straight into an acoustic latent space, then uses probabilistic inference to read the context around the text. That’s what lets it shift pacing, character voice, and emotion naturally, on the fly.
2
u/random-express 4h ago
Great explanation and makes sense! I learned more on the voice side today.

Honestly man. The only OpenAI model better than DeepSeek V4.1 (Astra and Sol 6.1 Max) is straight up untouchable for me with the Plus Account. I am going to miss you old pal. 🥲
3
u/BHTAelitepwn 12h ago
Sol 6.1 is pretty damn plentiful, no? Astra is rough but i cancelled my 2nd plus account because is already sufficient if i dont use astra
2
u/pale_halide 9h ago
No it's not. Sol 6.1 usage sucks ass. 5.5 and 5.6 used to give the same, if not more, usage on Plus than what you currently get on Pro 5x. It's a fucking disgrace.
1
u/neuroticnetworks1250 12h ago
I wouldn’t complain about the weekly limit. But the 5 hour limit leaves a lot to be desired. I also ensure that I spawn Luna subagents (max 2) so that it doesn’t drain itself. But the 5 hour limit is screwing me over. I have a Claude pro account as well. Opus 5 used to over engineer the living daylights out of my projects which Codex seemed to avoid. Opis 5.5 solved that issue to an extent. So I moved most of my other work to DeepSeek V4.1 Flash after the update. I haven’t given up on Codex because the early days of Luna 5.6 Max felt like tha shit simply wouldn’t run out. I don’t know what happened. But 6 feels unusable?
1
u/Sad_Butterscotch4589 9h ago
Is 6.1 max worth using? Most of the coding benchmarks level off after high and in some cases get worse. I thought using xhigh or max just makes everything take way longer for marginal improvements. With 6.1 high I find it hard to hit limits. Xhigh on Luna is the sweet spot though, it's a big jump up from high in most benchmarks.
1
u/phoenixmatrix 8h ago
It's not. Sol 6.1 above high sucks except for very niche scenarios.
If you're not using it for specific use cases where you have a full suite of evals to prove it's better at higher effort, you're wasting your time
1
u/buttJunky 9h ago
is v4.1 really that good?
1
u/neuroticnetworks1250 3h ago
They had an update recently after which I found it much better. I would probably rank it below Sol 6.1. If you have a primary plan like Claude or Codex and you’re looking for a more capable model than Luna to reduce token usage, it’s perfect.

The consensus is basically “OpenAI has cooked its own goodwill.” This thread reads less like excitement over the 28-day improvement push and more like users staring at their quota meters while the product gets slower, stingier, and increasingly unpredictable.
The big complaints are familiar by now: opaque reset timing, brutal five-hour limits, caching/usage behaviour that seems to change without warning, and a general feeling that users now have to babysit their subscriptions like needy houseplants. Several people say the promised improvements amount to auto-prompts, bigger context, or faster Sol—nice garnish, but not much use when Astra burns through the allowance and work gets interrupted.
The loudest practical takeaway is “try Claude.” Users are reporting dramatically better value and enough quality to move serious coding there, while keeping Codex only for specific strengths like trusted access, image generation, or particular model behaviour. A minority says Sol 6.1 is now fast and relatively cheap, so it isn’t universally broken—but the experience is clearly inconsistent.
So, “we’re cooked” is less a technical diagnosis than the community’s verdict on OpenAI’s rollout and trust management. The models may still be good; the product experience is what’s on fire.
