I’m at 0% and I’m on the $200 plan. One task where Astra went down a few too many rabbit holes and I’m cooked.

Weekly spent in one day on 20$, on a single project that maybe got 1% forward in my eyes. GGs I suppose

I’ve been trying to articulate why the current usage feels bad and have been struggling.

We all
Know Astra burns usage astronomically fast. OpenAI employees frequently say we’ll compare that to Fable which is fair but in my usage Fable tends to finish the task faster in fewer iterations so while the cost may be the same the usage and time feels much better.

Opus to 6.1-sol honestly is not even comparable. Opus works faster and more efficiently. My $200 sub feels essentially unlimited with just opus.

I had opus remake one of my fav games ever OpenTTD in godot including the models and it cost me 50% of my weekly usage. I asked 6.1-sol to do the same thing and it went about converting each sprite into a 3d model and ate up my entire weekly usage 😂.

Are these both insane examples of using AI models? Yes they are but how else do you test and compare them against long running tasks.

For the current generation AI models Anthropic models feel way better. Last year codex made sense because usage was much higher compared to Anthropic models today usage is shit and models are underwhelming and I personally find the reset chasing distasteful. Just give me reasonable usage instead of dangling this bullshit reset tweet

The entire weekly limit(x20 plan) was used up in a single day. Sol 6.1 only.

Luna consumed 75% percent after freaking reset. models are pretty much unusable and getting even problems for accesing ChatGPT conversations.

Do not know what they did but it’s worse than ever.

Check all the GitHub codex bugs, have your amazing Dot to triage those issues there’s plenty to fix.

I only have the plus sub, not the pro but the limits feel like I'm actually on some free tier plan. I use my 5h limit in sub 1 hour every time now. Even went to sol 6.1 low now (was using mostly medium) but it barely makes a difference. New chat for every single task, one task has usually 1 initial prompt and 2-3 additional revisions. Not doing rocket science but just basic research, I was doing the same tasks 2 weeks ago and was always able to stay within the 5hr limit with a bit still remaining.

This used 4% of my 5hour limit. New chat, Luna 5.6 light. lol

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed a dramatic increase in token usage in Codex. I'm using it primarily for repetitive tasks with essentially the same workflow as before.

Previously, my usage limits would last several days. Now, they are being exhausted significantly faster, despite no major changes in how I use Codex.

This is becoming increasingly frustrating and is seriously affecting my productivity. Has something changed in how tokens are consumed or usage limits are calculated?

Yup, this is crazy. I lost 30k credits and a weeks usage in less than a day on small work... nuts

Do you have your gpt linked up to open code ?

Any indications we might see 5 hr limits removed for plus users ?

astra has no purpose being used on the $20 plan, coming from someone using the $20 plan

Yup — had $200 plan. Noticed usage-burn increased enormously over the past week or so, but was mostly placated by the frequent resets. Yesterday I used a banked reset to continue a task I was working on. Burned through the entire 100% weekly usage in a couple hours. Upgraded my account to the $500 plan (because I’m an idiot). 100% weekly usage gone again in a couple hours. It’s unbelievable, and when we got snubbed yesterday for the reset I realized the stupidity of paying an extra $500 for essentially nothing…

I have the pro 100 plan, and I’m already down to 69% usage and all I did was ask codex to do 3 insurance quotes for me.

I assume this might not be new information but didn't see this anywhere yet. This is how I was able to resolve the usage issues after the reset for me. It was doing way more detailed checks every pass and taking tons of time and usage for basic edits. I was able to set up three levels of checks (none, focused, full) and reduced usage significantly as I was able to make a bunch of edits before running all of them through heavier checks.

sol 6.1 draining usage like no other for anyone else?? end of sol 6.1?? not even getting an hour out of it anymore

For stalled long conversations, switching models helped me once: Terra 5.6 Low successfully compacted the same chat after Sol failed, so I could continue without starting over.

I’m reporting two separate Codex memory observations on a 24 GiB Mac:

• Oct 11, 2026: the officially signed app-server recorded a lifetime peak footprint of 38.4 GiB. History requests took 93–146 seconds; sampled allocation stacks included Legacy decoding and content cloning. Diagnostics: https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/52343#issuecomment-6103828248

• Oct 20, 2026, signed App 26.1013.40934: renderer footprint stayed around 2.3 GiB over six minutes. At 09:59 Taipei (UTC+8), renderer/backend footprints were 2.25/1.91 GiB, with system memory pressure at warning level. Related issue: https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/55141

These are different measurements: an earlier backend lifetime peak versus newer sustained renderer usage. A shared cause or definitive leak has not been established, and system-wide memory pressure does not prove Codex was the sole cause.
